Title: Crown molding around cabinets
Post by: kanewolf on August 01, 2009, 10:42:50 PM
I am doing a kitchen design.  Is there an easy way to get crown molding to run along the tops of the cabinets?  It will follow the walls behind the cabinets but I haven't come up with a way to wrap it around.

Yes - there are several ways it can be done.

You could just take the "Custom Member" from Interior Accessories> Decorative, Change its texture to your particular molding (Moldings materials in the Material List) and size and elevate it to the right position.  You will probably have to override the Texture size (Height) to squash the texture to the height of your molding so the pattern matches the ones on the wall..

You could also use the drawing tools and convert them to members. On the 2D plan view, using the line tool, draw around the front of your cabinets in an anti-clockwise direction (if there is a corner), right click and select Convert to Members. Double click one of the members and change it to the size and Appearance you want, and on the Details tab set the Miter options to On. This will miter the external corner if there is one.  Finally elevate it to the height you want and position it exactly.

The image below may make the second technique easier to follow.
