Title: Modular Design
Post by: Jack Zimmer on September 10, 2009, 07:50:34 PM
It is nice to see that a 'module' when snapped 'over' another module , converts common walls to 'one wall'. With that in mind I did a test.

First created a 'studio apartment' module, copied it and made a 'one bedroom module. Then created some 'guide lines'.

I can then snap the modules together creating whatever combination of studio / 1 bedrm I want (top to bottom along 'guide line' ). Then mirror copy all of the right modules 'across a hallway width' guideline and then mirror copy the whole right bank across a center courtyard.

Cool and very productive way to complete a repeating apartment / assisted living complex.

Raise the terrain.

Copy the original full model. Make paths / pads / terrian non selectable. Select 'copy' , duplicate to location (after creating a new location to top of new terrain).

Add trees.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for posting these examples. Shows what can be done so easily. Meant to comment on these earlier but have been so flat out with a major project (involving half a dozen movies and over a hundred stills for a web 'energy efficiency' application), that I msised doing it earlier.

I have used the wall over wall technique before and it is very useful. Joined walls could be quite a pain in the old FP3D.
