You must reassign materials when bringing a dxf model from TFLOORPLAN to TurboCAD but you can take advantage of advanced lighting for rendering and generate custom 3D elements once in TCAD.

Does 3DS transfer the textures any better? I think it does from TFP back into TFP.

3DS does transfer materials but doesn't 'organize' layers like dxf. It is much easier to work on the model when you can turn off / on specific layers to adjust things. Because TCAD uses a completely different method of applying materials, I don't think they would transfer well. But it would be nice to at least have the jpgs 'assigned' to the objects. As it is now all I get are generic 'colors' which aren't consistant. For instance, glass in windows may be all assigned the same in TFPLAN but come in TCAD as mat79, mat80, mat92 even though they are all the same.
The hardest thing to do is assign glass and assign inside outside of walls. So I can turn off everything except Windows / Door , create a new layer and transfer all the glass (one at a time) to that layer. Then I can change all the glass at once. Same with walls.
There is no such thing as paint brush, so all must be done 'by hand'.

Here is old image of a project brought in from TFPlan to TCAD. The 2D work generated in TFPlan is the basis for Paper Space working drawings in either Pro or Deluxe version of TCAD.

Just about anyone with patience can generate these shapes with the TFPlan roof tool.
Todays standards in Engineering would supply completely different framing but the basic shapes and combinations are quite 'do-able'.
Calatrava has been succesful building similar shapes, in fact 'Guillemins Railway Station' is similar to the first low pitch Hip with Dutch Gable front I posted.

Hi Jack,
When I said "I'm glad I don't have to build them though!" I was referring to being a builder. I don't mind doing fancy shaped roofs in TFP but the thought of actually building it does not appeal in the slightest. I saw the mess the builders that build our house got into and that was very simple by comparison. After I saw what was happening, I started visiting every day to keep and eye on them!! One of the angles they got so wrong there are no less than 8 top plates on the wall !! I hate to think of what they would end up with if they tried to build one of your examples!
