When rendering use windows priorities to make your computer usable for other activities.  To change the windows priority, open task manager (right click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager).  Select the processes tab.  Find the TurboFloorPlan process (will have TFP as the start).  Highlight the TFP executable, right click, select "Set Priority" then pull across and down to select "BelowNormal".  You may get a message that changing priorities can cause problems, but I personally have never had any issues changing from "Normal" to "BelowNormal".  This change will allow you to do other things while rendering.  Your renders will probably take more clock time to complete but your PC will be responsive to other tasks.
