Hi forum,

I'm wondering how shop drawings are produced with TFP, I cant figure out how to assembly views of my model ie sections, plans and elevations on one drawing with dimensions? Is this possible or is there an extension to TFP that I need. Thanks

It's very simple: As soon as you start asking about working drawings, construction documents, presentable shop drawings, etc you're asking about Envisioneer ($2000), not TFP ($100).

As Geroge said, to do exactly what you want means a move to the parent program Envisioneer.

Just a bit more background to that (that I had actually already written before Robert and George replied to you):  TurboFLOORPLAN incorporates almost everything in creating the model that Envisioneer does but the construction drawing ability is excluded.  That functionality takes it from a 3D modelling and rendering tool, to a builders/architects construction suite.

TFP was not intended for plan production but is only designed for 3D visualisation and as such is capable of the same incredibly realistic images as Envisioneer (see the Gallery section of the forum if you haven't already). TFP does however allow you to create the elevations, sections views and plans with exactly the same details as Envisioneer does, but Env takes it a step further making it possible to easily arrange a selection of these views onto a single page to present them to a council for approval and to a builder to construct.  

This last step is what you are looking for obviously and if an upgrade to Envisioneer is too costly an exercise for you, then the tutorial George referred to may do what you need.

Simply put, you display the plan, elevation or section on the screen and do a File/Export as a DXF file onto your hard drive. Once you have exported all the separate views you want, you stat a new TFP project and File/Import the individual views, arranging them onto the screen in your new project as you would in Envisioneer.

Env does not have the Export/Import part - it takes the screen views directly onto another screen within Envisioneer. Using the method I described for TFP, each imported view can be moved around to where you want (as in Env) and you can also add text, extra dimensions (they calculate automatically), and any other lines you may need and you can then print the complete page as a set of plans. Other than the Import Export step everything is the same as Env. The only thing you can't do using this method, that you can in Envisioneer, is delete lines from the original image you imported - but you can HIDE them by drawing a white line over the line you do not want.

This system is certainly not as simple as Env, but MUCH cheaper!!!. Depends how much you need to do it and whether it is worth the extra cost.

The couple of examples below were done in TFP to give a simple example of what can be done using existing functionality. These are just a view and plan elevations of cabinets but is esentially the same as what you are trying to do. They have been compressed here of course into a small JPG but the original could be printed with excellent quality on whatever size paper you want.

Incidentally, Envisioneer has just gone from V5 to V6 as week or two ago, so TFP V15 cannot be far away. Whether the printing capabilites of TFP have been upgraded or not we will have to wait and see. In the meantime the PDF referred to in the link George supplied, may help you to do what you want.

Just ask again if you get stuck or cant follow it.

Hey Thanks once again everyone for the thorough response. I understand! As I am in the business of design and build I may need the quicker route to production drawing capacity, but I see how it could be done now in TFP. Im checking out env at the moment!.....


So If I get env can I still chat with your guys?.....or am I excluded.

I will be coming out with a low cost option to create Working Drawings from your TFPlan models by using TCAD Deluxe.
While I suggest any full time business purchase Envsioneer Pro to do working drawings inside the program itself, those who are 'part time' users, will find that with a bit of extra time spent transfering information to TCAD Deluxe, you can get very nice working drawings.

IMSI sells Designer for a bit over $100 / with discounts available at times. Amazon has it for $72 right now.

If you do follow the Envisioneer line, you are certainly not excluded here. The 3D parts of the program are essentailly identical. I am looking at the Envisioneer trial at the moment and apart from a few new things in the 3D area (that TFP15 may get anyway) it is no different to TFP.  What works in one works in the other in nearly every situation, so whatever you get from the TFP forum will work in Envisioneer and most of Envisioneer will work in TFP (with the exception of the worksheets and a few other minor things.  So feel free to frequent both forums.

I offer comments and ask questions from time to time in the Env forum and some of the others here do too and Jack often visits us also, so we would still be pleased to hear from you and especailly if you have something to share - such as Jack's Measuring Stick!
