I need to show a section for the plans that I am submitting to Council.
I have one which does not show roof framing, roofing iron etc-see attached
I need one showing these items as per the other file attached
Any suggestions?

I don't use TFP to generate printed plans...but Allan has answered this kind of question and showed how to do so using a .pdf output.

Suggest you search this forum for key words like section, print, plans, drawings, or similar.

Likely, Allan will reply in time and point you to his tips.

Hi Brian,

If you want to show roof framing in the elevation Framing will have to be turned on in the View Filter, at least for the roof - this will give you the top rafters. It will not show the trusses or support beams however. You have to add those yourself as they are not available yet. Search on rafters - they was an explanation about how to do it with Members. May be one of the ones I have 'stickied' at the top of the Tips and Tricks Section. Other wise the Search should pick it up. (I am not at home just now).

I have tried the steps that you set out Allan and have been able to draw the roof trusses as shown on the attached truss plan.I just did it freehand with the line tool( it will need some fixing up).
I need to show a line drawing rather than a rendered one.
When I converted to members and selected the beam size 90 X 30 it only showed a thin line.I increased the size of the beams, but it was still too thin.
I selected a brick wall 230 MM and it looks ok.
I know that I can export this plan( when completed) and import it into a new drawing  for printing elevations etc on single pages.
What I would like to do is to export the roof framing  and import it onto the partially drawn section plan, without having to also redraw the section plan which currently shows the floor, internal wall, doors etc.
Is this possible?
If not it will be easier for me do do it manually(the old pen and paper trick)

I have just realized that the section plan does not show the brick veneer walls in the way that I need for council plans.
I need the internal timber wall and the external brick wall, with a space in between.
They also show as one line on the 2D floor plan.
It looks like I will have to draw the section completely.

Hi Brian,

I have to go out right now so just quickly:

The truss should be drawn on a separate project, to size using Members ( remember it is on its side so wood size needs to be set accordingly to show the right width). Export as 3DS and import to your catalogue and set it to vertical. Now open the model and insert into roof, then do your section view.

Is framing turned on - may need this to show the ca@vity. Also, do all wall parts have a 2D line type set on the Appearance tab?  In WA we do not need to show the cavity as long as the text says what it is.

I have produced a section which is OK for sending to council.
I scanned a drawing  as a jpeg and imported it, then put the notations on the plan.

Hj Brian,

On the Layout toolbar (may need to turn it on) you will find all the 2D drawing tools, cirles, lines, rectangles (Box), etc.. You can make up your own borders with these tools or you can try Importing the DWG Title Boxes. I have not played with those yet so I am not sure how well they work in TFP.

I needed to drag it around.
