Is there a way to keep doors and windows in a fixed location on a wall?

I have a wall with a door and some windows that are just where I want them. But I want to stretch the wall out a bit. When I lengthen the wall, it moves the door and windows proportionally. Is there a way to stretch the wall but leave the door and windows where they are? Thanks.

Hi Gary,

I do not know a way to locking them into place as such.  If the drag the wall closest to the door or window it will move them with it.  If you move the wall that is farest from them, they will stay in place - but that probably does not help your present situations.

I suspect you will have to drag them back (use the Nudge and you can do it precisely).

That's what I'll do then. Thanks.

An alternative that may work, depending on the walls and how they are already laid out and whether done or incomplete...

Add-in a new wall, finish.....then drag the new wall end until it connects as desired to the wall you want to lengthen....note you may need to use the grid to ensure the walls align or they may not join into one new wall.

If needed...you can "break" the wall, then insert as above and drag the new wall to connect to and extend the old wall without having the window or door move.

Again...walls must be aligned to connect to add to length.....use ortho etc. to ensure you don't connect at an angle you did not intend.
