Working with the Catalogue

I added some elements to the catalogue and then went to another PC and opened the same project.  I just copied the original catalogue file to the new computer thinking that would work- I got the new elements listed in the catalogue but in the drawing they just all appear plain white, obviously I am doing something wrong.

Hi Plucka,

You did not say what the elements were. 

If they were images or textures then you would also have to copy over the Textures folder and replace it. If the textures you created were not saved in the original Textures folder, but elesewhere on your other PC, then it would not be able to find them. Textures and images are only linked to the file. If other objects you created used these textures it could not find, then they would be white.

If that is what is happened then you would have to collect the textures/ images from your old PC, put them in the Textures folder, copy that to the new PC and then reimport and reassign them.

If that is not the issue you may need to explain further about the elements concerned.

Yes I believe that is the problem, I didn't copy the textures, I had assumed it was all contained in the catalogue database.  So is it a case of simply copying the catalogue and the missing textures to the default locations because you mention something about importing and reassigning?

Hi Plucka,

You need to:

1. Copy any textures you have saved elsewhere on Computer One, into the Textures folder on Computer One.

2. Go to Computer Two and rename the relevent folders - eg Catalogue Old, and Textures Old or something like that. Best to keep the original ones installed - just in case there is a problem and you can change the names back again.

3. Copy the Catalogue folder and Textures folder from Computer One and paste into the same directory on Computer Two, keeping all folder names the same. You will find the current directory names/locations on Computer Two, in Setting / Program Settings / General. They must be in the same folder locations.

4. Go to your model and reassign any textures that were lost. If the textures were originally in the Textures folder they will still be in the model, you will not have to reassign those, but any you had saved elsewhere on Computer One, even though they are now in the copied Textures folder, will still have to be reassigned. The model will be looking for them in their original location on Computer One and will not know they are now in the Textures folder (until you tell it!  ).

If you have saved any Templates you may also want to copy the Templates folder over too.
