walls beneath steps

How do I make my walls to conform to stair risers and treads? My walls always go through the steps and the railings to the cieling. I need the walls beneath the steps to go no higher than the steps.

Can't say I have had that problem as mine have always been inside a room but you could use Openings to cut the hole or use the right click to insert a Break each side of the steps and set the wall inbetween to Level and enter the height. Haven't tested the latter - it may leave a gap so you see into the edges of the walls.
