How do you change flooring?

I've spent an hour just trying to change the garage floor from the default carpet to concrete. I've followed the user guide to draw a floor area then gone to the materials and selected the concrete look I wanted. When I try to place it on the floor I get a symbol that suggests I can't do that. I then brought up the 3D window and again selected the concrete. It asked "just here" or changing all the floors. I selected the just here but nothing happened. I tried other flooring as well but nothing changed.

Appreciate any help.

You don't need to draw a new floor. Just change the material.

Apply colors / textures => User Guide => "Applying Paint and Color" (page 89)

Thanks, Patricia. I only tried the flooring tool because there is no way I could change the flooring in the first place. There was just a strikeout symbol suggesting I couldn't do anything.

Can you detail the problem as specifically as possible, so we can understand the issue. Let us know exactly what you tried, what seems broken, etc.
If possible, attach a screenshot showing the issue

I will be in 2D. I will select what I thought was the floor because the room area will be a tan color. I go to the flooring and select tile, for example. I hover over the floor but there is no way to change it. I then split the screen to view the floor in 3D. Again I go to the flooring materials and select a floor. I try to paste it on the floor area in 3D but nothing happens. The only thing that I have discovered that works is to go into the rooms view and apply flooring.

Appreciate your help.

As is clearly stated in several places of the User's Guide (example: the section "Applying Paint and Color" - Page 89) => all the Customizations (paint, color, materials, baseboards, etc) are made only in 3D view.
The 2D floorplans don't include textures.

I get that it can't be done in 2D but it's not working for me in 3D either in the split screen or the full view. Same with painting. I get the blue spinning wheel then the little yellow man and nothing changes. It does work in the 3D rooms view although painting the walls is a little difficult when you can't really see them.
