Total newbie

Sorry, but I am struggling with the most simple issue but I can't find any help on this anywhere. I have started by placing the "garage" and I just wanted to change the dimensions to 12' X 24" but I can't find anywhere in any of the help files or tutorials as to how you edit the lengths to enter your own. I finally found post that said to use the Commander Bar, but I have no clue what this is and, again, there is zero help for that term. It is impossible to click and drag the endpoint to an exact measurement. I find it very frustrating that if you move the endpoint to make the wall longer then go back to make it shorted the wall is no longer selected. Also, if I change the measurement and let go of the button it can take forever to redraw the drawing even though I only have one room. This concerns me as to what happens when I hopefully have a far more complex drawing.

First of all: please inform the title, version, and platform you are using. On the PC you will find this info in the main menu->Help->About... On the Mac this info is on the title menu->About...
