Filler cabinets, nosing and drawers, and free space underneath the cabinet.

Hi all,

I have been playing with TFP for a day or so and have a few questions regarding cabinets (mainly base units here).

1) In FP you could specify a cabinet of any width. In fact you could drag the width of you cabinet (if memory serves correct), and FP would create similar cabinets for you from the original.

If TFP, the minimum width of a cabinet I can create is 152mm. It simply won't left me create a cabinet smaller. Is there any way around this?

2) I have also notice a bug with the nosing. If you decided to show no nosing on the counter top, then you are left with a small triangular nosing! In addition, you cannot change the dimensions of the nosing a great deal, and the seem then to revert to 25mm.

3) This is more of a feature request, it would be really nice to be able to specify drawers within a cabinet of different heights, so you could show 1 cutlery draw and 2 pan drawers for instance. In addition, it would be nice to be able to alter the door spacing gap at both top and side rather than just via one dimension, as a lot of modern drawers have no handles but a finger space between them, yet the drawer themselves are the full width of the cabinet. With this in mind, it would then be useful to be able to specify a different material on the front of the cabinet (rather than the whole cabinet) to the drawers so it looks at though there is a finger recess. To achieve something like this on dark wood cabinets I have had to use a panel with the recess in silver, but it looks rubbish and of course the recesses is a complete square around the front of the cabinet.

4) Again, another feature request. You cannot increase the toe space beyond 150mm. It would be nice to be able to eliminate this completely and show cabinets standing on legs.

5) When adding a sink to a cabinet that has a separate countertop over the top of it, the separate countertop is not cut through. The reason for adding a separate counter top instead of using the standard counter is that I have inserted a separate dishwasher in the drawing and so have a single countertop installed over that. No matter what I do I cannot get the separate counter top and the standard cabinet countertop to look the same - similar issue with the nosing as highlighted in point 3 - so I thought I would remove all standard counters and put in one single separate run on top of all cabinets. It seems you resolve one issue and create another - similar with my past experiences of FP!

I think you should copy all of this into the Feature Requests so that it does not get missed as you have valid points in each case. However a few thoughts that may help:

I have not done a lot with cabinets although in one case recently had no trouble matching the bench tops to the cabinets, but they were the default depth.  I notice that you lose the Nosing control when it is set to a counter top only - strange.

A sink will place in a counter top so you could put the top and sink on a different Location to the cabinets and if the tops show through the sink then set the conter top on the cabinet to transparent.

You could raise the cabinets to use legs under them.

I will be working on cabinets this weekend so will let you know if I find any other workarounds.
