How can I draw an unsupported canopy

Hello Again
I need to draw an unsupported canopy.
Height will be 2.4m with 800mm depth (both dimensions can be approx'), it will be wholly supported from the wall with no supporting walls.
Support brackets are not needed to be shown but any decorative (timber) scroll type support would be  a bonus.
Canopy will be covering recessed front door and turns around 2 x corners.
I attach a drawing to further show the location & turns.
Any assistance as always would be much appreciated.

Hi Quintain,

Just draw a roof by Picking Points. May be best to create a new Location for it, especially if it is not the same height as the main roof.

Not sure I understand you but will try your idea later today, do you mean pick points on the shape in my diagram and then define the height above ground level (2.0m??) I thought I would have needed a set of walls to load the roof onto.

Hi Quintain,

When you click the roof tool you get the option of By Perimeter or By Picking Points.  The first option just puts the roof on the existing walls.  The second allows you just to 'draw' the roof shape anywhere, whether there are walls or not, which is what you want.

The reference to height is the wall height on the Location.  If the roof is level with the top of the existing walls then it would be the same height as your ground floor walls but if it connects to the building slightly down the wall (with your brackets above for example) then the roof needs to be inserted on a location that has the wall height set accordingly.  The roof will be inserted as if on the top of the walls, if they were there. If there are no walls it will still put the roof at the wall top height.

You are up and about early.
I have had time to put your advice into practice and have some puzzling results.
If I can start by saying I had it in my mind that a roof would only sit onto a set of walls; obviously with your advice I am aware that I was wrong. BUT I will show in list form what I have found in this last hour and it has confused me (not difficult at this moment).

roof drawn at correct level (ground) with properties showing 2438mm above level.
viewed in 3d and roof is shown at correct level (about 1/2 way up 2 story building)
tried to select roof to edit.
roof not allowing me to edit/select
tried using menu (Edit-Select All) eveything but new roof selected
swore (gently) at screen
drew new test building and drew same shape roof close to new building
able to select and edit new roof and move it into position, changed it from hip to gable and single pitch--excellent (except wrong building)
tried to draw new roof into other previously saved drawings and cannot select new roof to edit
tried exporting/importing but no good

little bit at a lost at this moment, time for a cup of tea and ask my wife for new swear words to use on return to computer!!!!

I have started to redraw the whole building.
I am of the opinion that (following your answer/s to others) that my drawing is freezing/locking up.
I have so far placed the canopy and the upper roof, both have gone in excellently.
I did untick graphic acceleration with no results.
So far-So good.

I am  not up early but late - I am in Australia! Second thoughts, maybe I am early since we are at the start of the day. Then again - from your perspective I an probably writing this tomorrow, so maybe I am late after all! Time is confusing isn't it?

You can only select things if you are on the right Location. If it truely locks up you would not be able to do anything.

Each Location is independent although you can select across Locations in 3D view.

Time is confusing; particulary the unalterable physical rule which says 'time increases in speed with a direct relationship to the acquiring of every additional grey hair' I remember a time I enjoyed 365 days between birthdays; now I am lucky if I get 100 or so days (or so it appears).

I have redone my small drawing when I return home I will have another look at the original, including the see through glass question I posed. I had selected glass for roof cover but forgot about anything under the glass.
I take it when you say 'you can only select things if you are in the right location' meaning the correct floor level, ground etc?? I think but will check that I was at the right location/level.

Yes -  floor levels are referred to as Locations since there can be many Locations on the same floor level.
