Roofs on Separate Locations

I've placed the roof of a house on its own location, by itself.  Walls are on a separate location, and set to "extend to roof".  How do I get the walls to trim to the underside of the roof if the roof is on a separate location?  I've had no trouble when the walls and roof were on the same location.

Walls will only extend to the roof if they are on the same location. All locations are totally independent - they do not know about each other. That is their purpose, so they do not react with each other.

Is there a particular reason for making it separate?
