Gable ends with different slope values

In the second floor of my house I want a roof with two different slope values (frontal picture.jpg). In both of the ends the slope value is 35 degrees. In the middle the slope value is 22 degrees. My issue is that in the gable ends of the 22deg roof, there is no wall on the second floor in which I can "extend to roof". I then need to set the roof properties to "display gable", the "support height" to 244 and the "vertical distance" to about 200, for filling in this "hole" in the wall. See "gable end exterior.jpg" which is how I want it to be from the outside.

So far so good, but the problem is that when looking inside (See the "gable end interior.jpg" and "gable end interior hole.jpg") there are now a wall extending down from the roof. I want this wall to just fill the hole and not the rest of my room.

Is this understandable and possible?

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

As with many things in TFP, there are several ways of doing things but probably the 'correct' way of doing this one is to regard the upper room area that sticks out of the 35 degree roof, as a Dormer as this automatically fills in the end walls.  It is not quite straight forward as the 35 degree roof overhang extends across the front of the 'dormer' section, so has to be cut out using the right mouse click option. I have used a dormer in the example image.

You could also use the sloped top and sloped bottom wall to fill in the opening or use an imported 'triangle' (see http://forum.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,315.0.html for the triangles and how to import them.

When a second floor utilises roof space, then you can use mini walls (even just 1mm high) and these will accept dooors, windows and roof and will automaticaly extend to the roof.

also, tho it will not solve the problem you explain, consider installing the 12.1 updater....seems to help in some areas and not cause any significant new issues.  Search this forum for 12.1 or update or similar words to find what has been posted about the update. I think most agree its a good update.

If Allan's help does not solve your problem  (it should), then ask more and consider posting your .bld file for others to look/fix/suggest.  Also search this forum for second floor, roof, gable, dormer, or similar to find what else has been done ...for other solution ideas and maybe file examples.

Allans picture and recommendation is exactly what I want.

But I've tried Allans first suggestion, but I can't work it out. I have some trouble with those dormer-roofs.

How do I create a dormer roof with gable-look and place it over the existing 35degrees roof? Do I have to make one dormer for each side?

I've tried a bit and have included my bld-file. As you can see on the picture and the file I need to lower the dormer roof to match the existing roof and remove the overhang in front of the dormer. I have tried to remove this as Allan described, but I can't rightclick and remove only this overhang. If I rightclick and remove, the whole 35degrees roof disappear.

I also have to make the opening in the 35degrees roof larger, but I can't click the opeing-line.

I've figured out the opening-problem: This is not an opening, but I had to set the solution-type to cut an opening around next story.

I have adjusted your BLD file so you can see what I have done but it is still not quite right as the roof fascia still shows through the upper windows.  I will work on that more later. (too late now nearly 1am here).

You will probably find it easier to cut out the front section of the roof before you insert the dormer so it does not get in the way. Don't forget to change the two small returns to gable or you will get two mini hips across the roof.

When defining the dormer choose the 22 degree roof and make sure the 'Make Front a Gable' box is NOT ticked.  After it is inserted select the dormer roof and click the 3 inner edge arrows so they turn green and change them to Gable. The 4th outer edge should stay the same (22 degrees) - see the image.

To select the edges of an opening you need to right click and select Move Edge.

I hope this gets you a little further.

I noticed you have not installed the update yet. It fixes a number of issue, especially in rendering. (This readjusted BLD is still your version - not the updated one)

I still have some problems with openings and the dormers, but I think I will solve the problem after a few more trials. But it's getting late here too, and I'll try more tomorrow and come back here with my questions. The clock has past 10pm and that is late enough for me...
