Imports 3ds objects from older Floor plan versions, and bonsus files

I am testing the TurboFloor Plan want to know if anyone knows how to import 3ds files from Floor Plan 6 and 10 and a link to Bonus files. 

I have both CDs and there are some symbols that are not in the New Turbo Floor plan pro, plus in the Install program of 10 has a bunch of Bonus D:\3DSsymbolsbrowser\floorplan3dssymbols.htm that I can see additional files in 3ds but then there is no link to import any and the files show up as a Jpeg image.

These are not in the Floorplan 10 program categories either- but on the CD .  These are 25 pages of Symbols of 25 on each page, but I can find a way to access them.

Ideally I would like to add these as a another category that I can then select from in Turbofloor plan v14 Pro as needed when there is no item in the Turbo Floor Plan.  But being able to add the Object would be great.  I tried to add a tapered 8 foot wooden column and in Turbo Floorplan Columns does not have any that are tapered all the way up or have any stepped circles.   

Any one have any ideas about how to do this?

Ideas on how you acess these bonus 3ds.es from the floorplan 10 CD. ( past uses of Floorplan 3d) ?

I have the CD for FP3D v10 and the disk1 CD does have the .3ds files in 17 folders. Each 3D file can be opened with my quick 3D viewer just fine. This is a separate folder from the .jpg images of the files

To put into your TFP catalog, its like importing any object...can probably best be done by importing and placing into your current drawing file in 2D floorplan view, and then select it and save to catalog.

You can import directly into catalog but it never seems to go where you want it except you can usually use folder called "interior accessories" for most anything.

Check help file for importing files and using catalog. I do is occasionaly, so don't remember the exact steps....but there is an import wizard that works OK.

Warning, lights may work OK as object, but not as a light with a red lite cube....need to use another real catalog light and make all other parts transparent.

Well that worked fine, thanks,  I didn't think of going on the CD with an explorer.   I found the files on the d drive using Windows explorer and was able to import the a 3ds file onto a project page in TFP.   I guess I can import them one at a time as needed or spend a day doing it.

What is the quick 3D Viewer you mention as I can see the name but not view what the item is?

Lastly in my CD it has the Bonus images about 250 of them and call them 3ds files but them are only on the disk as jpeg,  so could not get to them.

It would probably be best to import the files as you need them or you run the risk of having a very large catalogue and have memory and instability issues. I downloaded all my earlier versions so do not have the CD  but if they are the ones I think they are, some of them are very large files.

I think that Doug has mentioned the 3DS Viewer before so you may find it with the Search or Google it - free if I recall. 
I will leave your other CD questions to Doug.

It is possible to import a 3DS file into Lighting and it will take on the light Properties. Dave posted a video on how to do it a week or so ago in this section. So far I have had mixed results though. Sometimes I have had the light fitting outside the building but the actual light itself was inside! I need to experiment more.

I'll look for the Dave video...is it for ver 14 only or does it apply to v12 too?  I'm still using v12 only and have not purchased v14 as I see no great advantage for the high upgrade price (not even close to $50) for the usage I'd make of it.

Hi Doug,

Video is in V14 but I have not checked 12. Dont remember seeing the Import button in 12 but I know touching the Custom Icon throws it out - cant edit Appearance, I still need to experiment more.

Thanks I'll try the viewer  You mentioned,thanks for the link. 

I copied the files already to my HD.  In order to run the turbo 14 I had to update my computers processor and triple my ram so not have problems since  The v14 is 2000 MBs and needs 750 mB of ram.

I am going to import to the catelog as I go and as needed. 

I have the version 14 and Had sent number of questions to the project manager though one of the test sales guys and he sent me the video and than later saw that posted on the forum.

I was having problems but that worked fine but you have to pull a similar light such as one bulb if one and i as able to get it do do what the video did.

Hi William,

Yes I was able to replicate Dave's video but got some funny results when I tried to use an inside light.  I ended up with the light fittings outside and the light itself inside - weird!  Also was not able to adjust the appearance of the light fitting. One part was transparent but was not able to get to the settings to change it - it would dissappear altogether and I had to start again with the same result.

I only had a real quick try so need to spend some time to try to test it out properly.
