Welcome to the Forum!

I have had a play with this and seem to have the same width setting problem that you have.  I suspect it probably has something to do with the order in which the various settings are done.  This is the case in come other parts of the program - unless you set the options in the right order, the automation will change other settings. Problem is finding the right order to accomodate the dependencies.

You have actually achieved more than I did however, as I could not, in the limited time I spent on it, get the lower quarter turn within the width of the straight section - it always created a physical 'U' shape.  I am curious what settings you had to achieve it, so wondered if you would mind posting, or emailing, your BLD file, so I can see it and also have another try to get the double turn, with the same original stairs you are using.

While I have not tried and don't have latest ver.   . . . .

I'd try (since the program does not seem to do what you want as-is) to build the stairway in two pieces on two separate locations and let the 3D view merge the top and bottom halves in area of the mid-section....i.e. an L shaped bottom only and an L shaped top only.

Likely to get best results the top section should be in same location/level/floor as the room so it will break thru the ceiling/2nd floor easily; where-as the bottom section can be placed almost like a single object within the 1st floor.

In fact, another solution is to make an L shaped object (or both) and manually export as a .3ds then re-import and place/orient etc.  But you lose flexibility.

The "trick" is to ensure the steps end and blend in the middle....but a one step overlap is OK/desirable as you can offset one set by 1mm to get the desired effect for viewing....and no one will know how you forced the construction for overcoming program limitations.

Probably you already have solved your problem with stairs, but if not, I suggest a solution I found for drawing any shape of stair which maybe you would want to try:

It is easier if the stair will be located between   walls in both sides. In this case, Set program in automatic floor insert. Insert a wall from one side wall to other (any angle you need).  Edit wall to your desired riser height, for example 8 inches. Edit wall (or not)  to  specific width. Insert  next wall at the distance that will be your thread width,   12

Another thought - if you do not want the stairs to be between walls, just to do it using Floor by Picking Points.  

The illustration will probably make it easier to grasp but basically just Create the bottom step, duplicate it, move it to alight the corner, rotate it to align the edge, and elevate it to get the step height that you want.  Then simply repeat the process.  Each step can be individually shaped if necessary simply by draging out the corners and curved if desitred with the curve tool.  The possibilities are limitless - moonshaped steps for example.  

Obviously make the settings to the floor being used in the first place for step depth and textures on the different surfaces. When you duplicate for each step then they will all be the same. Elevate the first step also or it will be the same level as your floor.

The ballustrade is not so simple but can be done as you have suggested.

sure!!! great solution. a lot easier!!!

and another way among many, as You pointed:  just attaching edited spruces to a round, angled or plain wall to attain a modern & light stair, as shown in JPGs.

Yes this is a very quick method.  The floor (and ceiling) can be shaped to anything you want. You can also right click and cut holes in it too so any shape almost is possible. eg(http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,763.0.html)  You can export as a 3DS and import again so you can then stand the shape at any angle too. 

You can do the same thing with the Layout tools, convert them to "members" and make almost any shape - eg these wagon wheels http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,793.0.html.
