Hello, In TFP 15, anyone else notice the select tool or material painter seems to hit or grab everything except what you want?(in 3d view)applying siding from the outside, it goes through and applies it on an interior wall on the opposite side of the house,or selecting a door or something, again goes through the wall and selects a wall two rooms over...is this a bug, or just a real annoyance you have to put up with in a cheap program.I hope there is some setting i missed.

Hi,  Welcome to the forum.

Sorry but I cannot explain the behaviour you are having as it works fine for me. I have used this tool ever since it was introduced many years ago and haven't ever experienced what you describe. I have also tried it in the parent programme, which is 20 times the price, and it works exactly the same there - no problems.

So - a few questions...

Which version of the program are you using?  (Pro, Deluxe etc and full version number from Help / About...)

Was it downloaded or from a CD?  (Idnetical, unless corrupted during download)

Have you changed any of the settings in Settings/ Programme Settings?

Is the second box on Settings/ Programme Settings/ Building aids ticked?  It should be normally - prevents selecting other Building Locations accidentally.

Does it do the same thing when you create a new test model?

Hopefully the answers may lead to solving the issue.

Hi PHANTOM, welcome to the TFP forum

The textures / colors going "to the space" or out of control, or to the sky / grass are a typical symptom of a video card problem. Usually the solution is very easy. Please, follow the steps below

1 - Check the website of your video card manufacturer and update the drivers

2 - Go to the video setup on your PC (may be different for different versions of Windows and video card); for most, click on an empty part of the windows Desktop, click on Settings->Advanced->Troubleshoot. If you are using Win 7 look for Personalize--> Performance. Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem disappears

3 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK

4 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color")

5 - Go to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer

6 - Some NVidia card users reported additional problems--> in this case change the color settings from 32 bit to 16 bit

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies,i bought the cd,I am using v15 pro ,on win7,onboard intell graphics..As far as video imaging, scattered broken views are not the problem im experiencing, the materials go to an object alright, just not the one my cursor is pointing on. For example,in 3d looking straight at a wall,or any object, i try to paint a material , or select the object, and it highlights, or paints one behind it,below it, or grabs the floor in another room (if your looking down at a slight angle).I know about the view manager and making objects selectable. It seems as though the cursor is not calibrated to the view,I dont think you should be able to select a wall you cant even see(behind in another room), but in 2d plan mode it is fine.Hope that makes some sense...

Hi again,

I suspect that the points Pat is making may be the solution but, as a very quick check, go to Settings / Program Settings / Graphics and uncheck the Hardware Acceleration box.  That in effect does, within the program, what Pat's solution would do, but doing it this way would also affect your speed of movement within the program.  If that does solve the problem then I would try Pat's solution to fix it properly.  Onboard graphics can be a issue too - 3D really requires a dedicated graphics card but I do have another laptop with Win7 and onboard graphics, that works fine, so you may be OK with that.

Hi Allan and Phantom

I am sure that is worth to perform the whole process

We had 2 cases with similar symptoms and they were solved

However, let me point that integrated videocards are not good for rendering purposes

Thanks, yes it appears to be a graphic problem, oddly , i couldnt find any open gl settings through the desktop shortcuts or the controll panel? But ,turning off hardware acceleration in the program solves the pointer issues, at the expense of becoming unusably slow. It is strange that i have used a much older version of tfp(7 or 8? ) on a MUCH slower computer, and it performed fine(?) ,and visually looked absolutely no worse,in fact ,i remember all of the exact same really budget looking objects and furnature in the library. Thanks for the help everyone....

Hi Phantom,

Glad to know that the problem is solved!  :)

For all the graphic programs--> the older versions required less computer resources. I remember my first videocard (128Mb) --> I got it after my onboard card and I was astonished with the speed!!. My current videocard is 512 MB and I just bought a new computer with an 1 GB videocard

Anyway, you don't need to turn off all the accelerations--> try a notch each time until the problem disappears
