Hi Doug,

Thanks for sharing that. Some very impressive renders - I especially like the soft shadows in some of the images.

Do you know any more basics about it?  From what I could work out from the website (it was not clear to me), it appears to be just a landscape creation and rendering tool (but obviously a good one!). Most of the example images spoke of the buildings being created SketchUp, AutoCAD etc and the site seems to sell ready made 3D models to add into the landscape for you to render- is that how it works or can you create your own plans and architectual models, as TFP does?

I notice one of the images took 10 DAYS (not hours!) to render!  Obviously that must be the exception rather than the rule!

Yes, Vue is known primarily as a 3D terrain and landscape modeller and renderer (think of Grand Canyon and trees), similar to Bryce.
They call it "digital nature".
Is used now as pro tool for movies and commercials but there is a lower cost "starter" version....and was a free trial (limited renders) version.

Vue could/maybe be used to generate architectural models but it would be hard work and slow and tedious...not its forte at all. I doubt anyone would work it that way.

Could be great for TFP background creation if you needed a special view. Can import USGS satellite images/terrain maps and convert to 3D model.

I used Vue thru version 4, but for the limited uses I have and rising prices, I never upgraded to newest versions and use Bryce and Carrara instead.

Search www via Google for anything related to Vue and you will find extensive info. Great tool if you want to visualize a jungle or desert or mountains and lakes etc.
I think render times are normal/typical (not fast or slow) depending on the scene etc.

Hi Guys,

IMSI does make Renditioneer. It is 'cheap' and fast and works with Sketchup. (would be nice if it could be added to TFPlan).

What is nice about our options is that TFPlan exports to 3DS with all materials assigned. There is care to be taken with roofs as two surfaces show up. Photo boards don't export with images. Windows are not transparent. But all of those items can be quickly adjusted in Sketchup (even the free version).

Once imported , you just launch Renditioneer from within Sketchup and you can do a no brainer , click time of day / sun position option and render. Or you can add your own lights and do custom render.

Attached are some samples. The first is a quick import and rendering of an UNTOUCHED TFPlan export / import. I just set the time of day to mid day, adjusted the sun to a specific positon and hit Render. Here you can see the lack of window transparency and roof bleed through.

The others are from the IMSI Turbocad Gallery, that I did screen grabs of posted images by other users. They are not my work, just samples of what others have done in Renditioneer.

Hi Jack,

Sounds an interesting option - if the rendering is better.
How does the internal rendering compare with TFP?
Will it do interior lighting with the sun coming in through windows (without a lot of messing around!!)?
Does Renditioneer provide the lights themselves or just the light source?

I use renditioner.  I import my house models as 3DS and use it for quick renders.  I also use it for designing the gardens as the software I use for building design is not fantastic at terrain. I don't use TFP myself but used to use Envisioneer.

As far as lighting is concerned I don't use other that sunlight so I cant say.  I only design for the purpose of my business and planning and building control the advanced renders you guys do are beyond my scope.

Renditioner is stunningly fast and can render a scene in minutes rather than hours.  Very good value.  There is also a Pro version which is even better.

Try the free one its worthwhile.

Hi Allan,

That link I posted has a link to IDX Renditioneer forum where you can browse images posted.

I haven't used it much except to test it. Envisioneer is currently required for work I must do, no option for other rendering outputs are allowed.

This render from the forum shows both sunlight and what appears to be an interior light source on the top left. But I'm not sure and I don't rember my test results. In believe it is using lightworks render engine and it allows for sun and interior lighting without a problem.

Lights , materials and scene lighting (preset options with one click) are available.

Vue is used to the landscaping.
"The scenes were split into Maya based (with Vue trees) and pure Vue shots (the simulated helicopter shots) and the live-action composited shots (which also include Vue)".

Vue is good on landskaping and TFP on make the buildings, so if you will make a great 3D precentation this is a god combination

I have self Vue 5 Easel mybe I will try it out together with TFP
