Unable to access the requested template file

I was running TFP-3D Pro v15 on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Yesterday the workstation had a hard crash. After I rebooted I cant open my current project files. I can open all of my older projects but the one that was open when the machine crashed now returns the error "Unable to access the requested template file". Since I can open all of the other projects I think it safe to assume that the catalog, templates, textures, etc., files are all OK as are the file structures. I also did a disk repair to ensure that there are no lost or orphan files. Given the above observations it seems to me that there must be a lock file still floating around somewhere. The complete error is attached along with a screen cut of the templates folder.

Any suggestions would be most gratefully appreciated. I have tens of hours in this project over many days and I would hate to have to do it all over again.

Cheers,

Roger

Hi Roger,

Did you look for your backup file?

By default, if you are working in the project folder, the backup is in the same project folder --> look for the same name of your file with the *.bkp suffix

Thanks Pat! I should have mentioned that I did also try to open the .BKP but got the same results.

Hi Roger,

I will leave Pat to follow through on any PC issues with you as I do not know much about that side of things - I am learning though after a few PC issues lately!  It does sound as though the file itself has been corrupted by the crash.

May not be relevent but how did you open the BKP file?  Double clicking won't work, you need to start TFP first, then do File/Open, Select BKP instead of BLD and navigate to the BKP file.

Have you had a look to see if any autosave files are there?  If the file was corrupted by crashing while it was open, it should not have affected either the previous BKP or autosave files (if autosave was turned on).  They would be deleted when you close TFP properly but since you did not close TFP down, then the autosave files should have been left behind.

In the past there have been a few reported this message after a computer crash while TFP was open and in most cases the BKP or autosave file worked.

I can understand how you feel about starting again. Hopefully it won't come to that, but rest assured it is much quicker the second time around (been there/done that!!!).

Allan has several good points, so I'd suggest that you check these items and let us know about the results
