Photo Landscaping

I don't see the option to work with Digital Photos used much , so this house image from the internet was used and imported as a Photo Board, then landscaping was done.

Works nicely.

Hi Jack,

Did a similar thing with my own house - to decide what sort of garden to plant. 

As you said it works well and makes landscaping decisions easy!!  
Unfortunately, doing the landscaping iself was much harder! 
Needless to say the final photo is a few years later and as you can see we went with the second plan.

This technique would also work for an addition if the original Digital photo was taken carefully.

Yes I have tried that too. As you said the secret is in the quality of original photo and having it at right angles to the camera in TFP. The perspective distorts very quickly if you move the camera slightly to the side, so you can virtually only render from the one position.

I did try with angled views of the building (rather than front on) but it was difficult to draw things so that the looked right. Front on is no problem.

Another method, in similar fashion, is to take photos of an existing house...all four sides, from an orthogonal view (square to the house) with light/shade set as needed (probably take the photos at different times of the day)...and adjust the photos in perspective using photoshop if needed.

Then construct a very simple house of same shape and apply the photos to each face...much easier if the faces are all flat. The result is ability to see more in 3D views as the existing house is setup as a 3D object. 

It may be easier to create such in another 3D program or use Allan's techniques to make various shapes of any kind rather than try to construct using typical walls and roof directly in TFP.

There is a method like this in SketchUp...to start with photo(s) and make a building to fit and then apply a photo.  Called "photo match"

I do like the final rendering.

If by "final rendering" you mean the fourth image, then yes it should be good - that one is a photo of the completed garden based on the original model, some years later!
