Can't get a new building location to show in the View Filter

I want to add a loft ( attic ) to my project.  I can add it as a new building location but when I want to select / deselect elements in the View Filter, Loft is not listed as a location.  OS = Windows 7 Home Premium, Turbo version = 16, Graphics card = Radeon X1300/X1550 series

Hi tomh! Welcome to the forum, you can not see the attic in the View Filter, before you saved the project.

I tried that out and in my case you could see the New Location in the View Filter, before it was saved but it would not appear until you had inserted something on that location.

Tomh,  Are you sure you inserted things on the new location and not on another one by mistake?

Amazing... I spend 2 weeks trying to get the loft location to show in my view filter.... then I post a message to you guys.... next time I power up the loft location is in the view filter list of locations. 

On careful reflection it may be something along the lines of not having an element in the location.  I did put some walls in but they refused, and still do, to rise any higher than the floor.  I suspected that this was because the location wall height was 1 mm but I have since changed it and it has made no difference. So I have elevated it and it now seems to be in the loft but does not extend to the roof.

It is possible that until last night the project was never saved with any elements in it.

Many thanks.  I am now off to have a look a some posts I have seen about cathedral ceilings since they seem to touch on this area.

Hi Tomh,

I think I have found the problem with your walls. First they must be set (on the Top and Bottom tab) to Auto Extend but I am assuming you have done that.  In testing this however I find that some walls will not extend, even though they are set to do so. In my case I found that all of the AU/NZ walls will not autoextend and I seem to recall that these Austrtalian walls are now automatically supplied in the Metric Catalogue.  Is that the case in your copy of the catalogue?  If so, choose one from the Exterior walls section and it should work. Let me know if that is the problem.

The 1mm walls need to be on the Second Floor location and the Floor Height of this location must be set to the sum of the Ground Floor thickness (eg 300mm), the height of the Ground Floor Walls (eg 2400mm) and the thickness of the Second Floor floor (eg 300 mm), so the Second Floor floor level (its surface on which the 1mm walls are) would be 3000mm (300+2400+300).
