Importing BIM files

I am trying to add a new group named "Siding - James Hardie to my master catalogue. The steps I took are as follows:
1. File/Catalogue/Edit/Add new group and then renamed it Sidings - James Hardie
2. I then tried to import the BIM file to the new group in the catalogue but discovered that the new group I just created was not showing in the catalogue that I wanted to import to.
What am I doing wrong? any help would be appreciated. See Screen dump.

I find that sometimes the catalog does not accept or place imported items where you tell TFP to go to.....often no rational reason or indication.  In that case, try another reasonable place you can remember to go to.

But before you try anything else...do a catalog search for your named items...it may have "loaded" OK but not where you thought.

Also when you find the object(s)....you may be able to move (drag'n'drop) if in the same general location (to another or new folder)

Allan may have a better answer or knows of .bim catalog oddities  (I use .bim only occasionally).

Hi Bob,

BIM files will form their own group depending how the BIM was designed - the only option you get is to 'Transfer' - the Group name, Element and Textures etc will all be transferred to their relevent areas. If you specifically want them into a Group of your own you can either rename the Group that was created when you imported the BIM or you can create a new Group within the same section and move the elements into your new group. There is no way that I know of to move elements between different sections.

If you are importing 3DS, SKP or 3D DXF files, I find it is best to right click in the Catalogue (on the right of the screen) and choose Add Element. This way the object will go exactly where you put it. If you use the Import Wizard, it will only put the object into your drawing, not the Catalogue, and you have to Add it later. When you do that it will put it in the Section you chose during the import but it sometime hard to remember later what you chose and even then it will put it into the section but you do not know which group or it will make a new group - this is why sometimes they seem to get lost. Inserting into the Catalogue directly avoids that - it has always worked for me.
