Scale of files sent to Turbocad

I have been sending DXF files from Turbo Floor Plan to Turbo cad 16 to finish them but they
come in much larger ans I have to reduce is there a way to have them come in at scale

Sorry I don't know enough about TurboCAD to answer the question but just wonder if one is set to Imperial and the other Metric. That would make one 25.4 times larger or smaller than the other.

As shown in my Working Drawing training videos, Open TCAD > do Insert > File and in the pop up (where you select DXF option when first importing to TCAD) on the bottom right of the dialog box select Setup and change to 'mm' in File Units option.

My training videos also include a TCAD template that has all Paper Space pre defined. So, for example , you import Ground Floor or Second Floor Plan from TFPlan, place them in the predefined 'box' in Model Space, they are automatically inserted in Paper Space WITH a Title Block (that is also predefined and model space)...

The Templates that come with the training videos on Working Drawings are not for v16 BUT, just send me an email and I will send you TCAD v16 template as tcw file. It should open for you.

That is as far back as I can go.

I don,t know if this will help. I do all my model designs in TFP and export back to TC to do the working drawings. I do the following : In view manager, under the View Properties Tab I set the scale to 1:1, I then export file to TC and use extract from (File/ Extract from). The scale in model space is always 1:1.

It is common, when exporting/importing between graphics programs, to have to work thru not only scaling issues but often orientation and position in 3D space (i.e. where is 0,0,0).

Most programs are aware and offer options when exporting or importing; so once the choices are tested, you can be sure what to do in future exchanges.

Even if import/export options are not available, one can usually easily modify any imported object for size, orientation, and position.

If you are unsure or sense an export/import issue; probably the best thing to do is run a test scene or object of known size, shape, orientation and location (such as a pyramid or anything which will show obvious changes) and run thru the export/import and track what choices to make to be a success....then keep a record (.txt file is handy) for future use on complex stuff.

Turbocad platinum 19 32 bit doesn't have that option (file units) anymore when you open a dxf or dwg file. The object needs to be scaled accordingly with keep aspect ratio enabled. Easy enough but why did they remove that?

I can't speak about TCAD because I don't have it (I have a much older version and don't use hardly ever)

but see attached as example of import/export prefs for one of my 3d modelling programs (Hexagon; been free at times) which is fairly common but more complete choices than most.

Easy enough but why did they remove that?   

TCAD v19 has a default check box option of 'Convert Units' which seems to do the job without setting the units that the original file was created in.

Hi jack, when you open an imperial unit drawing that was exported from turbofloorplan as a 2d dxf in turbocad 19  you need to change the space units to mm with "convert units after alterations" un-checked then change space units to" in" with "convert units after alteration" checked. This will give you the correct size in imperial units in turbocad 19. Is this the method you are referring to? or am I missing something.  The no longer available option of "file units" was a lot faster/easier.

Hi Dean,

In TCAD early versions (18 and before), you just use Setup when opening the dxf file and set to mm (File Units).

You can see the settings required in the attachment. Once Setup is changed to 'mm' , the file inserts in blue box of my Template (included in training vids). All you then need to do is select and drag it into the appropriate 'other boxes' which are labeled and also predefined to automatically open in the Paper Spaces shown on the bottom of the image.

Set to mm, drag 1st Floor Plan into > 1st Floor Plan Box > it is now in paper space along with a title block ready to print. You edit your plan as needed in Model Space, it is automatically updated in Paper Space.
