Compound Pathways?

Other than using a floor object moved to the landscape layer, custom polygon, .. etc. Is there a way to put a fork in a path/driveway?

...and change the angle of the end? I'm not exactly sure how/why the second example has the diagonal edge, as I ended up with that while experimenting with a forked pathway by overlaying control points.

Sure. You can add additional points and edit the shape, create forks, curves, etc.
