Stair insertion not working

I've tried to insert stairs and they are supposed to auto attach but I can't even get them inside a room.

They seem to be a fixed length and do not auto attach to a wall like the manual says they should.

They also do not seem to auto size like they should.

What am I doing wrong?

Jeff,

I have not really had to use the stairs yet - mainly been experimenting with the photorealistic rendering but I did just try them out of curiousity and I did not have any problem with them. I could insert them anywhere and they did auto attach to the wall. Just wondering if it is one of the Hardware Acceleration issues.  I tried it with HA on and it hesitated a little but still worked.  Since HA is specific to the particular PC, it may be affecting yours more than mine.  Worth a try maybe.  Have you tried the Real View - with HA on mine crashed if I click the radiosity button - turning HA off fixes it.

Hi Jeff,

I ran into similar problems when trying to squeeze stairs in some tight open space between walls. I have three suggestions that worked for me:

1) Zoom into the scene as far as possible this allows you to move the object more precise, or
2) Make the initial size of the stairs smaller and change the dimensions when you have inserted the stairs on the right location, or
3) Remove some walls before trying to insert the stairs and redraw them when you've inserted the stairs successfully.
