applying lattice to the side of porch steps

   I have been trying to apply lattice to the sides of porch stairs. I finally was able to get lattice around the porch base by calling it a deck but I can find no way to get it to stick to the stairs or to be shaped like a triangle as it would need to be.. It always snaps to the sides of the deck.

Hi,  Welcome to the Forum.

I have had a play with the lattice on steps and did not have any problem with it or applying it to a triangle.  The only problem I had is that regardless of the colour you choose, it always renders black.  Looks OK on the screen, but when rendered using Basic render the white lattice is filled with Magenta and with Advanced Render the magenta becomes transparent (as it should) but the lattice itself is black instead of white!

However there a couple of words you have used that make me question whether you are doing what I have done (changed the Properties/Appearance/Stringer to Lattice) as you use the expression you can't get it to "stick" and that it "snaps to the side of the deck". This sounds as though you are applying the Lattice as a separate element over the top of the surface. How are you applying the Lattice?

I have posted the images to show it is possible and also to illustrate the rendering issues.

Thanks - I was trying to apply the deck skirting to the stairs. I have also been trying to apply it to the top of of fencing-is there a way to do that?

Sorry I haven't used the deck before so I was not aware of the Lattice skirting - it still has the same rendering problems.

You mention you were trying to apply Lattice to the "TOP of the fencing".  I assume you mean the surface or fill between the rails.  In the example I have done it two ways. The three sides that are the same is an Interior railing with the balusters set to the maximum width to make it appear continuous, although it still has narrow gaps between the palings. The palings have then had the Lattice material from Landscape Materials applied so it looks like continuous lattice.

The left side is an  Interior Balustrade / Guard Rail and I have used an ordinary wall set to just 10mm thick with the Lattice material uses for the Interior left and right sides of the wall, with the height fixed to 600mm and the wall elevated to align it with the rails.

There are a number of other ways this could be done but it seems you have to depart from the automatic decks to do it.  Even  these ways have the same issue mentioned before when rendering.  Look OK on screen but Basic renders with Magenta between the lattices and Advanced is always black.  I will report these as issues in the Feature Requests section, so they get fixed for a future release.
