i have a 9 inch solid wall. i want to fit the door to the exterior of the wall. when i do the door only opens outwards. can i change it to open inwards. tried reversing opening but it moves the door to the inside of the wall.

Seems an odd way to do it but if you create another Location with the same settings as the Ground Floor (if that is where your door is required) then you can insert a short section of a thin wall on the new location and insert your door in that wall. The door will automatically cut the opening in your 9" wall as well. 

All you need to do is make sure that the piece of wall is "inside" the 9"wall. If it is just a fraction in from the outside of the 9" wall then you will not have to worry about setting the thin wall to the same surface texture, as the 9" wall will hide the piece of narrow wall but the door will still show.
