No wonder I couldn't find them...I'll have to spend some time searching through all those catalogues...so much to learn, so little time!

Fortunately the catalog now has a search capability...so much easier than manually looking thru each category..."if" you know the correct name for what you are looking for...try several words (not all at same time) or initial parts of a word for best searching luck.

Hi Bob,

Sorry I threw you off on that one - my memory (as to what section elements are in) obviously cannot be trusted anymore!    I suppose I remembered partly correctly - it is on the Interiors toolbar but as you said in Plumbing.

You May have noticed, or will notice, an issue with Down Spout 2. It has an optional Leader Tail, but enabling this would direct the water under the building. This has been fixed but the update is not available in TFP yet.  I have posted a BIM file with this fix in this post: http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,2247.0.html so that it is easier to find, rather than being 'hidden' under Michael's subject.

Doug, I tried typing in "gutters"and got nowhere!  But I eventually found them...now if only I could get the guttering to meet each other! So much tolearn...my head hurts!

Michael, I'd also like to know your rendering settings if you don't mind...your pics look very realistic, while mine look stark and far too bright!

If you follow the link in my post above you, will find the answer to this question - by doing the guttering in the alternate method I mentioned you will find that the gutters install all in one go and automatically mitre on the corners. All you have to do is right-click Elevate them to the right height.



Can I suggest everyone,  that if anyone has further questions about Guttering/Downpipes etc you raise them in this post ( http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,2247.0.html ) as we have really got away from the original subject here - Michael's excellent renders.

Over to you Michael, if you would like to share your render settings (I can guess what they are but a screen print of the Render and Global dialog boxes would be ideal, as they have worked really well).

Yes search works as I said, but only if you know what word to input to search.

Tricks to use:
- guess as many (one at a time) words
- find something similar; it may lead to your desired object in a similar catalog location
- use parts of a word in case the whole word is not there

examples:
for downspout, search using "down" or "dow" or spou" or "rain"
for gutter; try "eav" or "trou" for eaves trough

Better to find more than you want to narrow down a search...try synonyms etc.  What works in one country may be called something else in another country/region...Google may show you related words to search with.

Hi Micheal,

Very nice work you have done !!  Great job.

One technique I use when doing 'top views' with ceiling turned off is to take a few 24" Track lights and elevate them to say 20 feet. Make sure they are moved away from the building and rotated to face the interior.

They brighten up the whole model but still leave interior lights visible.

Just curious: I have used addional lights before for general overhead lighting, but is there any reason why you specifically use 24" track lighting? Do they do the job any better or just a personal preference?

Hi Allan,

Of all I've tested they have been the best for 'aiming' and getting a 'downward' light fill and by default are set to a lighter color than many others. Of course to balance the lighting , they should be set to a higher wattage than others, so some experimenting is required.

In addition to Track lights, I've been using the Sun with Top Views.

You can see from the attached the differences each make.  1- Basic lights (sun off) 2-  Basic lights - Sun ON 3-  ADD Track Lights at around 20'/ higher wattage than interior lights (with Basic and Sun ON).

For Sun setting I use Ecuador March 22 (spring solstice_ or the 20th) with Sun at 12 noon and daylight savings time OFF. Gets almost straight down Sun (less shadows).

I have a number of lighting configurations all based on adding a track light. I'm still working on interior lighting with Sun ON with this method and have had some good success. The main concept is Simple lighting + basic rules = fast , consistant, semi predictable results.

One of my favorites is Destiny Fellowship hall in Illionis where I figured a way to get recessed downlights to show on the building and control both them and the Sun for casting shadows from a 3D tree.

Thanks for the examples. They all look quite good but the one using the track lights is probably the best.
Let us know how you got on with the tests with Interior Lights and the Sun on. I am still hoping we may get some updates eventually in this area.

1. Region location. My hometown - it`s my choise, but earlier I used default settings (CANADA - TORONTO) - pic. 1.
2. Date. Generally I use spring or summer months, but earlier I used default settings (first of july 2008). In my opinion, date is a insignificancy thing - pic. 1.
3. Time. Usually I use 6.30 - 9.30 or 15.30 - 18.30 - pic. 1.
4. I am of opinion that north direction is not importance thing. Turn the north about in order for your picture look well - pic. 1.

5. Always I use level 5, but different sizes of pictures - pic. 2.
6. Image brightness. -0.75...0.00 if daylight enable, 1.75...2.50 if daylight disable - pic. 2.
7. If daylight enable, then "partly cloudy sky" or "overcast sky" - pic. 2.
8. Antialaising.  Always 4 - pic. 2.
9. If you make trial rendering, use 1024x768 (rendering time 4... 5 minutes). If you want great picture, use "custom" 1600x1200...1920x1200...3840x2400 etc (rendering time 35... 90 minutes) - pic. 2.

Generally I make few shots (10...15) with size 1024x768 until give a good account of myself.
Speaking of rendering, usually I use advanced mode.
