How to 'delete' parts of the overhang of my roof?

Hi Allan (and Jack too, if interested),
When your latest reply came in I had already deleted one old roof and created a new one, same shape but with hardly any overhang. Was easy.
So then I did the second too. Also easy.
Then I tried to make cutouts. Strangely enough, after a LOT of trial and error, in 3 cases I was successful, in 4 other cases not.
For 2 cases I can still understand why the behavior is different: it is where the two bungalows 'hit' each other (be it on a different level, 1.50m higher/lower than the other one). The 'contact area' is different, so the cutout behavior is (apparently) different.
In 2 other cases I could not figure out why 1 cutout in that bungalow could be created as intended, and the other 2 not.
For the moment I give up. My main reason to create this design is, to show a future architect what I want. Well, with the example cutouts I can tell him that the other bathrooms need to be treated similarly.

Three remarks that might be helpful for you and Jack if others ask for help about this cutout issue:
1. I was desperately looking WHERE in the properties menu I could change to gable. I did not see any menu showing that option till... I clicked ON the mansard picture and only then I saw a popup window showing the other roof types.
2. After you have cut out a roof piece and the roof shape becomes odd, it is not enough to click on the three edge arrows, because then the properties window will not show up. After the cutout you must first DESELECT the window, then SELECT it again and be SURE that not another arrow will turn green (it can be invisible, off screen if you zoom in much) than the three edges that must be 'gable-ized'.
3. After the three edges have become gables the roof shape in itself is normal again (but not in all cases, as described above). But the light green roof edges must be drawn far away from their supporting wall or column, otherwise the cutout opening will be way to small. In three directions the opening must be enlarged, so that the dotted lines match the position you have in mind.

Hi Wim,

I'm glad your making progress.

On the forum there is only so much one can do to explain things. As you can see from the attached, many of your questions are pretty well defined by using Help from within the program. I go to Help , then Index and type in a specific topic, like Gable Roofs.

Most all basics are covered in my Roof Training videos and many Advanced aspects of roofs. It took me over one month to make them and I feel most peoples questions and much more, would be answered in a much more concise and timely manner than that provided on the forum. But yours was a bit of a special situation so I added some comments.

Try Help, it is pretty good.

Hi Jack,
For the time being I think I will stick to help and the forum. I have feeling your roof video tutorials might be to elaborate and specific: I don't expect to develop other roofs in the future, because this will be a one time project.

After several re-trials and re-errors I managed to get 5 out of 7 corner cutouts properly done.
Don't ask me how, I did the strangest and unconventional gabling, dragging, deleting, with the strangest results: one time even a odd shaped piece of ghost roof appeared a few meters from my building, which I could simply delete.
Anyhow, finally 5 cutouts were ok.
Still no idea why the other 2 only want to be cut out as rectangular, since 3 others had the triangular corner piece cut out successfully as well. I couldnt find the difference, but can live with this result.

Hi Wim,

What are your overhangs set to at the area of cutouts?  If overhangs conflict with one another or extend into an adjoining roof, you will get some odd results. I call them 'yikes' roofs, cause when they happen I say 'yikes' , where did that come from.

Try reducing overhangs either to 1/8" or 0 in those areas. (zero doesn't always work, that is why I always use 1/8"). See if that clears up the 'yikes' roof section.
