Showing dimensions on an elevation view

I have recently purchased TFP v16 and have not worked out how to show dimensions when viewing elevations. Is TFP capable of doing this?

Hi Muzza,

Welcome to the forum! Glad you found what you wanted.

I dont know which one you found but basically there are two methods - one is doing it in 3D using Jack's Measuring Stick ( http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1068.0.html ) and the other involves exporting the elevation as a DXF file which can then be imported again and measured very exactly using the Dimensioning tools.

Thought I would mention that as both methods are useful in different cirumstances.

I tried both methods in TFP 16 Delux and TFP 16 Pro - nothing works for me.
Can someone, P-L-E-A-S-E, give more details on how to make it work?
BTW, I contacted IMSI Design support group about this issue, and they
also cannot make it work in either method !!!

Hi Itsik,

Welcome to the forum.

Both methods definately work in Pro - and should work in Deluxe although I have not tried it.

The methods have different purposes. Jack's method with a measuring stick is only usable in 3D and involves moving the measuring stick you make around to check the heights so you can put objects on shelves in cabinets for example.

The method I mentioned will measure very precise heights useful for checking that you have the model correct. You must view the elevation or section, and do a File / Export as a DXF file. (Deluxe may not do this). Open another Location in your project or in a new project for the purpose and import the DXF moving it outside your model area so it is not in the way (if you are using the same project). You can now use the  Linear Dimension tool to measure any part of the DXF import you want or and any dimensions you want. IF you have Object Snap turned on, it will do these dimension very precisely. If you want to print it with these dimensons you can do so by just choosing that part of the model where the imported elevation is located as your print area.

I hope that is clearer.

There is an alternate method but requires another program which you may or may not have, if don't have you can get free programs of this type via Google/www.

Once you get the elevation view just the way you want it (except no dimensions showing), save a .jpg or .bmp of that view.  Also be sure you know an exact vertical dimension of an object, preferably something large (for accuracy) and preferably something horizontal too (to ensure correct aspect ratio).

Then paste that .jpg or .bmp image as a bottom layer in an Illustrator or Visio or Photoshop type program and verify scale is correct (compared to your known sized object) to get accurate dimensions you place individually.

Yup it is tedious but it works and you have full control. This is a work-around since TFP does not have elevation dimensions directly.

When you say you cannot import a DXF file,what do you mean? When you import it it does not work, disappears , or what exactly happens? I need more detail to be able to help.

Hi Allan,
When I try to import the DXF the file don't appear and the only file extension  to pick is something other than DXF. I do have another program and the dxf is in that folder, just not when I try to retrive it for  import with Turbo Floor plan. Do you think it would help to remove the program and reinstall? Thanks Bill

You should not need to reinstall it.
Are you using File / Import / Import Wizard?
