Reading this forum is a great help, thanks.  I am trying to change the material on door handles.  When I do, it ask if I want to change on the entire object and it appears to be working but nothing happens.  I seem to only be having this problem with cabinet and door hardware.  What am I missing?

This happens because in this case, the handles are components.

First let's clarify the difference between objects and components. If you place a table (Furnishing library), you are adding an object. The objects don't have special properties. But if you insert an element generated with one of the program's tools, you are adding a component and all of them have special properties.
A good example to see the difference between objects and components is related with the sinks => if you have a cabinet and you add a sink using the sink tool (Plumbing tab), in this case the sink will be a component so it will create the counter opening automatically and it will be placed at the correct elevation. If you place the same sink as object (Furnishing library), in this case it will be an object, so it won't create the opening and you will need to set the elevation manually.

The Hardware elements created with the Door Tool (Floor Tab) are components. As such, they have special properties that are specific for that tool. Therefore, they can't be edited as objects and the SmartWand doesn't work on the handles.

Therefore, if you add a handle with the Door Tool, you can't change the material of this component. This is the reason why in the librairies some handles are repeated but with different materials. There are two solutions:
1 - Copy the handle to your User Library (right click => Copy to User Library) => In your user library => open the element using the 3D Custom Workshop Power tool => Change the Material => Save to your library => you will be able to use this handle as object or as component (pointed in green in the image attached)
2 - Go to the Furnishing library => select the handle => drag and drop in your plan => change the material => define (manually) the elevation and position of the handle. In this case, as the handle will be an object, the SmartWand will work and you will be able to change the materials in the 3D screen.
