problems with bld files from previous version on TurboFloorPlan v12.C1.551

I recently installed Turbo FloorPlan Home & Landscape Pro (I have been a longtime user of this series over the years, and upgraded to this release).

Most of my bld files from the previous version will not open. When I try to open a project, a dialog is presented that the bld is from an earlier version and can be converted to the new version. I select that option, and my project image is visible behind a Microsoft C++ Runtime Library Error message box saying "The application has request the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." I click OK and a second error is displayed. Click OK the second time and the program shuts down.

One of my projects will open to the second floor (a 2 story house). I can see the whole thing in 3D, upstairs and down walkthroughs, etc. But if I click in 2D to see the first floor I get that same runtime error sequence and the program shuts down.

I tried the Repair Project function, which results in Repair Successful, but no change in the behavior occurs.

Any suggestions?

TFP12 does not have ability to open any previous FP11,10,9,8 etc version  (notice its .bmf   vs. .bld file format??)

TFP has a whole new set of code and old files are not compatible at all

Best you can do is import .bmp or .dxf floorplans, by floor, and trace a new .bld design.  Not all that hard but more work than an import file for sure.

You can export FPxx to dxf and import as 3D in TFP12 but you can't work with walls or windows as objects.....its one big lump object....I suppose it could be used as a check against new trace but otherwise not of much use.

I can't imagine TFP even developing the code to do imports of FPxx....not many $$'s in that effort when we have not even got a 12.x update for any bugs.  I don't know how many worldwide users there are of TFP12 but it can't be a large number compared to most major apps.

Hi,

Remember TurboFLOORPLAN is compatible with 3D Home Architect versions 5-8 (which would save as .bld)

jmkpost - you need to specify what previous software and version you have - as most posters here would have used FloorPlan v11 or earlier, not 3D Home Architect.

Are there any users that have upgraded from 3D Home Architect? Have you successfully opened previous files?

Yes, it was from 3DHA v8 that I upgraded. I did not realize there was another pathway. And I upgraded via an emailed offer which said this was a compatible format. So with this clarification, where does this leave me?

Sorry I sounded so dismal...I never used 3DHA except maybe ver 1 or 2 so very long ago and I'd never remember the file name from back then (more than 10 years ago?)

I hope you find that old 3DHA .bld files do open in TFP.

I find that my 3DHA bld files do not typically open. Instead, I get the behavior described in the first post of this thread. I do have one file that does open though, but exhibits the behavior described in the opening post of this thread. That is, I am trapped on the second floor in 2D. When i try to select the first floor view, the program shuts down. Yet I can do 3walthroughs, etc, into the first floor. Weird behavior. I was hoping for someone in the forum to have had this kind of experience and been able to fix the issue. My projects are of actual homes and recreating from scratch would be nearly impossible in some cases.

Hi

eMail Cadsoft directly and ask them, they wrote it and they are nice and helpful.

You will probably find most of the users here are from FloorPlan 3D V11 and this is V12 so we are not able to comment on 3DHA issues. At least though you have some compatibity - there is none with V11. It does more though!
