Adding a roll a door to a an arched opening

I am designing a house (see screen dump) with arched brick opening to the garage fitted with roll a doors. Unsuccessfully, I have tried to add a door to an arched opening I created but the door will not insert into the wall or opening. Is there a way to do this.
Allan, I am sure you will have a solution and what is the best way to create a rolla door element.

Hi Bob,

Yes this can be done. What you need to do is add another wall inside (can be very thin) to hold the door, then move them close together using the Nudge for the final adjustments. Nudge 1mm x 1mm until the door or arch vanish then  undo to get it back again - that is as close as you can go - they should just touch.  The image should explain.

Roller door is one of the door types on the Basic tab.

Thanks Allan, that worked a treat. One further question, I tried to change the arch colour to brick by changing the appearance of "inside niche back, header and niche back side". Should I be doing something else.
Is there a way to add the appearance of a rolla door to the surface of the doors.
One other thing Allan, the brick sills to the main house are a different coloured brick, I changed the brick type in the wall properties but no change occurred in the drawing. Is there some other trick?

Bob,
Allan can probably explain the roll-a-door appearance to you, but meanwhile I just wanted to help you with the arch trim.  The brick appearance is actually in the wall opening, not in the arch itself.  There are (at least) two ways to do this.  Either select the wall and change the appearance of the opening to brick or select the paint tool and click on all surfaces (arch opening, floor, etc.) that you want changed to brick.  There might be a pop-up question pointing out that brick is not normally used on this surface.  Just click Yes on it.  See pictures for clarification.  You should be able to use the paint tool to change the sills too...

Hi Bob,

Niche fills in the back of a recess in a  wall so you do not want that. In Wall properties set Openings and Edges to the same brick texture.

For a rollerdoor appearance just use a texture (eg Siding set small or Corrugated iron)

Sills are Trim element of the wall Exterior - you set the texture there.

They should solve your problems.

Allan & bjorn, Brilliant, thank you both.
Allan, I did change the sill brick texture in the wall properties and  noted that the change did not occur until a new wall was drawn. Any possible reason.

Hi Bob,

If you change the sill in the wall properties of the wall itself in the catalogue it will not change the walls already inserted. You can change it in the wall itself in the model, or select the wall right click and Replace - with the one you have changed in the catalogue.

Allan, for some reason it is not changing when I select the wall in the model, maybe I am doing something wrong.

You did not say which was not working: changing the sill in the wall itself or Replacing the wall with the one you have already changed in the Catalogue?

Check the steps below to see if you missed something:

For changing the sill:

Select the wall
Right click, select properties
Choose the Trim tab
Select Exterior from the dropdown list
Select Window Sills
Choose a Sill and double click it to edit (or right click Add)
Modify the Sill to be brick Appearance and the size you want
OK all the way back.

If that does not work - just make sure that your wall does have an Exterior surface. If it does not connect to the main building (because you have used two walls - one to hold the door) then it will not form an Exterior surface, only Interior ones (even though you may have given it a brick texture). The wall surface must be Exterior (for later to render properly) so connect the 'front' wall to the one behind so the outer wall become Exterior, or tick the Force Exterior boxes on the wall Properties. If this add the brick veneer and makes the wall too thick, then change the Core setting of the wall to just 1mm if necessary.


To replace the wall:

Select the wall
Right click and select Replace
Choose the already modified wall from your Catalogue

Either of those should work.
