I'm having trouble drawing the exterior of my house with stone on the bottom and brick above with a concrete sill between.  Sample 5 (in v. 12) has a multi-textured exterior but I can't figure out how they got the stone below the sill (see attached).  Advice will be greatly appreicated.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

I have not checked this out as I am using my phone at present to reply, but my first thought is that in the Wall Properties, Trim tab for Exterior you should be able to choose Custom, then Wainscot. This can be set at any height. Make sure you set it to align to Bottom otherwise it goes below the wall. You could use the Chair Rail set to concrete for the sill.

Even a baseboard could be widened to provide the stone bottom section.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Allan.  You have an execellent memory for the menu structure.  When I select Custom, only the Trim Catalog is available so under Wainscot the only textures are wood paneling.  Is there a way to pick a stone texture?

Hi Wade,

I have attached a couple of images that may help.  In the simple house image I have set the wainscot to brick and just used a timber chair rail as the 'sill'. These can both be set to any height or texture.

As the 'explanation' image shows, when you get to Wainscot (or Chair Rail) you need to edit an existing one (one you are not likely to use and rename it) or select Add Element.  On the Appearance tab you can set it to look like anything.

For the Wainscot make sure you select Exterior in the Wall Properties and set the "Trim Basepoint" to "Bottom of Trim" (otherwise the wainscott will be BELOW the wall). You must set this AFTER you have finised editing the wainscot otherwise it will reset to 'Top of Trim'.

Hope that sorts it out for you.
