Import to sketchup 7

Hi .
    I don;t if any one can help but i have a little problem . I use turbo floorplan V11  and also sketch up . i have a file which i created in a trial version of  FP  pro, as this as since expired ,it will not open and i would so like to get it into sketch up if i can   , any ideas

Hi Phil,

Welcome to the Forum.

Not sure that I quite follow what the full story is here but I THINK we can help.

Firstly, TurboFloorPlan started with V12 (V11 was FloorPlan 3D and the file type is totally incompatible with TurboFloorPlan) so I am not sure just what you are using along with SketchUp.  However, I gather the probolem is that you have a TFP Pro file (from a trial version) that you would like to export to SketchUp.  If this is the case, post the BLD file here and I (or anyone for that matter) can open and export it as a 3DS file for you - SketchUp can import this file complete with textures (if your trail version was V15).

If your file is actually a V11 file, then it may be a different story.  I think I still have V11 on my old PC but I can't remember if it was able to export as 3DS but Ithink it could.  Anyway, post the file and we will see what can be done.

          I own version 12 pro but i remember trying a new version i assume was 13 ,   while on my holiday  . i have sent the two files in question to see what you can do.
May i say it great to see you still here on this forum ,and and you must have helped so many people in your time . on a personal note have you used sketch and if so what do you think .

I'd say that they are V14 files

You can download the trial version of TFP V15 --> update and open the files--> convert to 3DS --> import to Sketch up

Let us know if you prefer the files exported to 3DS

Hi Phil,

I think Pat's suggestion is a good one!  If you created the files some time ago, then you will likely want to change something anyway before you export them, so to use a trail of V15 would be the ideal solution.  It may be also that you not necessariy want to export everthing, so you can turn off what you do not want beforehand (we would not know that of course).

If that is a problem let us know and one of us can easily export a 3DS for you.

It must have been V14 (there wasn't a V13!)

I was just looking back though this thread and realised I did not answer a question you asked me earlier. Probably missed it in the confusion following the loss of my laptop - it was stollen from the local computer shop when it was in to solve a Windows 7 issue. I am still trying to get all the software reinstalled on a new laptop.  Interestingly I tried to export the 3DS file for you, on a copy of TFP on my wife's laptop and it would not do it - said the version did not have this functionaity, even though it was V15 Pro. It must have just been a bug, as it was beta release 769, while the final release, which works, was 770. Anyway Jack did it for you and I gather it worked well, so that is good.

Back to the question:

on a personal note have you used sketch and if so what do you think .

I have used it but only briefly to have a bit of a play but I have not really had time to look at it properly.  It may be useful to me to create some objects not already in TFP but I usually find I can create anything I need within TFP.  It is often quicker to do things in a program you know well, than try to work out how to do it in a different program, especially when you have limited time to devote to it.  It appears to be quite easy to use from the videos but I have not looked at the archtectural elements - haven't come accross them yet but must be honest I have not actually looked yet.

I know it is capable of great things though, as I was one of the judges once (through my work for an energy retailer) on a panel to choose an environmentally efficient home design.  When I asked the winner what program he had used to create the images and plan, I was surprised to find it was the free version of Sketch-Up, although rendered in another program of course.  His images were better than those done in some of the very expensive architectural packages. It was a credit to him and SketchUp.

Totally unrelated - guess what I saw today, in probably the largest computer chain store in Australia?  Floorplan3D Version 8(!!!!) - there were 3 copies, $19 each!. V8 was a good version but somewhat out of date now!
