strange floating triangle at wall junction

I've joined together two short walls that are at elevation -1'-8" and this strange floating triangle appears at the junction:

Does anybody know what this is, and how to fix it? Thanks.

Hi Gary,

I suspect that you have possibly selected the 3 walls and reduced their height a little and that the triangular intersection piece of wall was not selected so it did not get reduced along with the other walls.

You should be able to select it from the 3D view, and reduce it to the same height as the surrounding walls. If not I would be inclined to re-do those walls as fragmented wall pieces can cause corruptions in the model leading to other problems and crashes during rendering.

Actually, I had two separate walls of equal, reduced height, and I dragged one of them until it joined with the other, forming a T-shaped intersection.

Oddly, the little triangle did not appear to be selectable.

What I ended up doing was creating separate wall fragments that abut but do not join each other. Here's what it looks like:

I hope doing it this way doesn't cause problems down the road.

What you did should be fine and it looks more realistic too....brick pattern is how one would build for real.

Gary,

I noticed that, in the lower triangle, you have a very small triangle that seems transparent (see attached) --> this means that (probably) you have two conflicting points --> Check for a "phantom point" (two very close points)--> I saw this issue before --> two volumes located in the same space render as 0 (zero, this means a hole)

The phantom point issue might be a problem later, so the new idea will work better

Hi Pat,

I think the small 'blue' triangle is just the sky background showing through the triangular hole in the top of the wall. The inside surface of walls are transparent, so the wall above the blue is actually the main wall behind.  If that was not there it would be a large 'blue' traingle.

Good that it is gone though in view of corruption possibilities.
