Some very basic questions

Ok, so I'm extremely new to TurboFLOORPLAN, so you'll have to bear with me on some of these questions that I hope aren't too obvious to answer :)

Other than in 3D mode, is there a way to manipulate items from an elevation point of view? ie I'm designing a wall book shelf using 12"x12"x12" storage cubes. And it requires me to be able to stack the boxes on top of each other however I want for the design I want. However, in 2D Blueprint mode. I only see a birds eye view of the layout and have to switch to 3D mode so I can see the items. Is this possible in 2D mode?

Is there a way to move objects a specific point on the drawing? Like give it X & Y Coordinates?

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!  :D

The are a few ways to see what you are doing vertically, 3D Quickview, Dynamic Cutaway and Elevations.
You may have to turn walls etc off to see things (if you have them). If you are just creating an object then it will be fine.

The image should point you to the views you need.

If you are just creating a bookshelf and want to use it again later, you should consider creating it in a blank model (as described in the PDF in this post  http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1130.0.html).

As far as positioning, there is a Grid and Snap to Grid option (Status Bar - bottom right). You can also use Linear Dimensions (Tools / Dimensions menu), the Measure tool (Tools Menu).

For precise positioning of things horizontally so they are exactly on top of each other use the Nudge tool (arrow keys on the keyboard) with Nudge set to a mm or fraction of an inch (Settings / Program Settings / Drawing Aids). There are two (one with Cntrl and Arrow) so you can have a tiny distance and a larger one.

Hope some of those help.

You definitely deserve the term "Hero" in yer title Allen. I didn't realize you could turn the wall view off in elevation mode and that just made things 100 times easier!!!

I've played with the nudging some. However, I'm use to just using an X, Y coordinate for positioning (i do a lot of graphic design) so I wasn't sure if there was something similar to that.

Anyways, your information got me started on the right track. Again, thanks so much!

However, I'm running into an issue. Under Settings -> Program Settings -> Drawing Aids there is the Nudge Distance under the Model View Editing option. I have that set to 1/16" for very minute movements. However, I don't see an option to edit how much CTRL+Arrow moves.

Which version do you have?  The Cntrl/arrow was only introduced in V16.

Re the XY option:  Have you looked at the Commander bar settings.  If you start to draw a wall for example, the Commander Bar shows Distance and Direction boxes that you can key into. To the right you will see the word Polar and an arrow. Click that and select Cartesian and these boxes become X Y coordinates.

I have never used X Y cordinates for anything so I am lost with it, hence I am not sure if it would help in what you are doing. Since you understand this you may be able to work it out and let me / us know how it works

And don't forget you can change the height location of an object...
select object, right click, select elevate...adjust as needed.
