Found a new trick....

Arranging the desired 2D floorplan view for correct pan and zoom not always fast, and too many mouse clicks.  Mouse scroll wheel works great (set to zoom about mouse pointer position).

The "trick" to easy pan...grab anything from catalog to insert....move the mouse pointer (now with an object attached and +) near any edge and the screen pans/scrolls for you (mouse pointer icon changes to 4 arrows).....when you get the right view, hit "esc" key to drop off the inserting object (does not insert) and get back to normal pointer.

Mouse wheel zoom in/out also works with "insert" active....so you can control x,y position and zoom with just the mouse motion and wheel at same setup...no need to click on scroll areas or use "hand" to pan.

Yes the Autoscroll (you can turn that off if desired) and mouse zoom, do work well and can be very useful. Just one caution though for new ones using the program: It is very easy using the mouse zoom, to move the a long distance away from the plan (small on the screen) and sometime end up accidentally inserting an object a long way outside the actual plan area. The problem then of course is that it is hard to find this stray object again and when you "Zoom to Extents" the program will try to include the distant object, resulting in the actual plan being very tiny, almost invisible.

Useful options but be careful not to zoom too far and accidentally insert an object!

Doug,

I came across this feature a while ago, and it's pretty slick, but it has too much of a delay for me, any you usually have to move sideways AND up/down, so you have to do it twice.  I like to just use the mouse scroll to adjust 2d view, no matter how I have to adjust it (zoom in, zoom out, even to pan I just zoom out & back in somewhere else).

I do have a question, though, for you or anyone else:

Is there a way to change the speed of zooming in & out with the mouse scroll?  I wish it were a little faster.  In other programs, you can set the amount it shrinks or grows for each mouse scroll click (I would like it to be about 1.4:1, but now it's around 1.1:1, so it takes about 8 mouse scroll clicks/detents to double the view (or cut it in half).  It would be so much nicer to do it in 2 or 3 clicks/detents.

Hi George,

Like you I use the mouse to zoom out and then zoom in on a new position. The Autoscroll is Ok if you are stretching a wall etc and run into the edge of the screen, but that is the only time I use it.

It would be nice to be able to adjust the zoom speed but there is no way to do so as far as I know.

Found another "feature"

still use mouse wheel to zoom in/out....no change;

and if I press down (and hold down) on the scroll wheel switch....it will pan the 2D scene with mouse move....this is even better!!

Using any combo of ctrl, shift, alt with wheel does nothing else different (was looking for swith to pan from zoom or zoom rate change).
