           Hey guys (gals) :

I guess it DID come pretty good.   But, after looking at it,   I'd like to add more texture to the water, making it look "not so smooth".    If I remember, Allan,  in one of your previous replies,  you mentioned adding a  textured layer on top of the existing layers.  I didn't think about that until "after the fact".      I was trying to get the   indoor/outdoor look.   Having a swimming pool within a courtyard type of thing.
And........as always,  suggestions for improvement are ALWAYS appreciated.

Yes, I believe more "texture" for the water would be good as well as a it more reflection...to make it look more like water rather than a painted color walls and floor.....which could be tiles or more stucco like texture.

And the floor surrounding the pool looks like the texture is too big/course.

As with any 3D render in which "realism" is desired......best to look at several real photos of eal world stuff to get hints as to how to make scenes look more realistic.

Advanced renders...even outdoors usually look better than basic renders...to get better shadows.

The ladder seems a bit out of scale compared to the width of the pool...but could be a camera setting at wide angle view?

It is a nice scene and a good camera position and lighting.

The home theater looks good with screen light emission but:

- below screen is a speaker system?
- screen might be better with a scene rather than plain white; and could have a very light textured surface
- it seems rare that the best center room screen view is an entrance way not a seating area

I'd like to add more texture to the water, making it look "not so smooth".    If I remember, Allan,  in one of your previous replies,  you mentioned adding a  textured layer on top of the existing layers.
Yes, basically that was the principle. I used one of the water textures in Landscape Materials and made some of it transparent by replacing one of the colours with Magenta. This allows the tiles on the bottom of the pool to be seen through the gaps and the 'solid' parts of the texture to case shodows on the bottom. Rather than using the texture 'square' I used the Texture 'Mapping' Override Tile Size options to enlarge it considerably and stretch the texture horizontally and the Rotate to change the angle to get the effect I wanted. The more you enlarge and stretch the image, the 'smoother' the ripples become, as in the last image. If you do not have people in the pool, then this is probably the effect you want.

I have added the texture itself below if you want to experiment with it (save it to your Textures folder). Just use a flattened 'Box' (one texture surface) to add a surface to represent the water ripple layer, just above or below your blue reflection layer.  As Doug said you may want to increase the reflection (Specular) level on the existing water. It will not reflect the background or sky - the only way you will get that is to use a very large Photoboard as your background image. Because the end wall arches are in the shade they are not reflecting much and because the sky will not reflect at all it means that they do not show.  If you move the sun a little by changing the time of day, so it casts some light on the end wall, you will probably see the arches reflect in the water too.

The other two images show the effect using this texture. As you can see it  looks different with the underwater lights but the section under the railings is probably what you want to achieve. The third image just demonstrates how the texture has been stretched out of shape horizontally to get the effect.

Hope some of this helps.
