Pool of interest abut Catalog items in 3ds from IKEA as download

Little background to this poll: If you have surfed at www.ikea.com (Click your country) you maybe seen there is some very simple on line 3D tools called IKEA planners there 3D items is made in 3DMAX.
As now they have Kitchen series
Now as I work at IKEA, I have a idea to suggest them to release some of this items as 3DS to download, so we import it to our catalogs both for imperial and metric measurements, but I have to see how the interest your are to use this 3d items in your design.

The pool will run for 1 month from now.

keep in mind that 3D warehouse has thousands of free IKEA models and collections, some of them developed with great detail

And I'd suggest models not be limited to .3ds (which is good), but also consider .obj including materials, and .BIM

Yup I must agree with Doug on this. BIM files are more handy. I have not got the real hang on the 3ds yet..

Sounds good. Bear in mind with BIM that WE are interested in Envisioneer/TFP BIM. There are several other BIM formats around and all are not campatible.

I'm not sure about if they can make a BIM-file  other vice I agree with you it is a better format, they use 3dMAX and Maya to make the 3D what I know abut, but maybe IKEA have a solution to that if they is interest

I think that the format(s) and / or the price(s) will be related with the company's goals (users and programs)
For example, Kohler has a nice 3D library of bathroom fixtures in *.rfa format, so you can use these 3D objects only if you are a Revit user. Therefore, this means that the Kohler company doesn't care if other programs' users could be potential customers
In other words, if you work with limited formats, you are limiting the users and potential customers
For the above reasons, I don't think that BIM or 3DMax are good ideas, if the library would be developed only in these formats

Andersen is an excelent example: they cover all the formats, including BIM, CAD, Sketchup, etc

There have you not complicit right, Kohler have a 3D library in BIM-format to, that work very well in TFP

I wasn't talking about TFP, but about users and programs. Think about Turbocad, for example
Also, FYI, I tried to import few Kohler BIM to TFP and some of them, for some reason, don't work
