What is the actual thickness of a wall?

Hello,

If I were to draw a 6" wall in TFP, would the overall thickness of the wall be 6" including the siding and sheet rock?

Would 6" brick walls and 6" stone walls also have the same 6" thickness?

Here in the US a 2 by 4 is actually 1.5" by 3.5" now a days so a 2 by 6 is 1.5" by 5.5".  Some older lumber used to be only a 0.25" less than the stated thickness and depth.  I am trying to draw up my house, parts of which have been built in the 1880's and later in the 1950's remodeled and added on.  Not sure what would be the appropriate way to measure and enter wall thicknesses (exterior and interior) in TFP.  We plan to build a 2 story addition using ICF attached to the back of the house.

Any tips on how to incorporate ICF in TFP?

Hi Elie,

TurboFloorPlan is basically designed for visualising what you plan to build, so what is actually between the wall surfaces does not really matter when it comes to visualisation. That said you do have some control over the framing inside a wall but no control over the thickness of wall surfaces.

So... a 6" wall just significes the distance between the two surfaces, whatever they may be. If you want to calculate the thickness then, you can just add up the actual thickness of the timber, plus the thickness of the lining materials and then enter that as the Core thickness of the wall (and name it accordingly).  If you are dealing with several thicknesses of walls then just right click in the catalogue and select Add Element, entering the Core thickeness and giving it a unique name.

As far as ICF goes, again you can only control the total thickness of the wall, so that is all you need to do, enter the thickness and give it a name (6" ICF Wall for example) so you know which is which and so the Materials list will record it.

How reliable is the framing?

Hi Elie,

Framing is perfectly reliable and very precise, the only thing is that it is not highly customisable. You can set what materials are used and resize those if you want or add new ones, and you can control the spacing a little but you cannot move anything individually - it is only automatic.
