Dark walls

I wonder if any of you guys might know what the problem is here... when I render in Advanced mode I am losing the textures on some walls...

Hi Garry,

These walls must be 'free standing'  - in other words they are not connected to the rest of the building so they form part of the a continuous exterior - they are 'broken' from the outside walls in some way or are on a different location.

A surface only becomes Exterior if it is seen as the outside of a room or rooms - so all the outer surface is classified as Exterior and renders correctly.  If the walls cannot be 'joined' to the exterior walls, then go to the wall Properties and tick the Force Exterior box for the correct side of the wall. A wall's right or left is determined by the direction it was drawn where the green marker is the start of the wall and red is the end. Facing that direction determines which side of the wall should be forced to be Exterior.

Hope that makes sense.

The project is looking very nice by the way - not sure if I like the feature black panels though!!!

Hi Robert,

They are totally different processes. Interior walls are programmed to respond to artificial light - if you had a light each side of the garage doors, for example, they would illuminate the black walls OK but the sun won't - unless it is through a window.  That is why we are having issues, in the other discussions, about tree rendering, as Advanced is really designed for inside renders, not outside - Basic works fine for outside in most (all?) situations.

Here you go Allan...the finials are part of an entire Dutch gable that I created in TC that I can drop into any house and then paint materials on the roof, finial, and timberwork (4 materials)...makes complex looking gables VERY easy!

After you pointed out the space above the roller doors, I wasn't happy with it, so I tweeked the roller doors to be round on top and look just a little more realistic...I think it looks much better now.

I have downloaded the finial / gable and it comes out well. Thanks for makging it available. Challenge now is to try to separate the finial ,as I usually have different pitch of roof and gable infill. That is one thing I managed to do one time in TCad, delete bits I didn't want, so I am going to have a go. I should learn to use it propertly but I find it mindboggling and, with lack of time, I just close it again!!

If you want me to give a try at it let me know...should be pretty fast in Hexagon program...cutout and repair/close as needed. I'm assuming you just want the finial and delete the rest? Assign any domain faces? save as .3ds?

I really was going to give it a go!  I have done it before - the first finial I had was made in TurboCAD by deleting a FP3D four poster bed except for one of the posts and exported as a 3DS! Then in FP3D I used a second one upside down for the bottom part. Very inventive I thought!....and it worked!

This one looks much better Garry!.... and I am so glad I did not have to try to negotiate TurboCAD again.  I wish it was as simple as TFP.  Probably is once you get to know it.
