Problem Saving Project to Disk

    Hi everybody :

                               I'm having a problem saving a project to disk (as a back-up).  I tried a CD-R, CD-RW  and a DVD+Rdl.  And I keep getting the same message :  "Framing Libraries contain an invalid path.".    I CAN save my project to the  Projects folder (within TFP).    I'm not sure if it's a setting within TFP........

      Update :

                     I tried a CD-RW disk.......and had no problem.   I WAS hoping to save the project(s) on  a CD-R/DVD+R disk, for  'permanent backup.....being the projects were, more-or-less, complete.        I used the same brand disks.   The same ones I used in the past (with no problem).     Talk about running into a wall.......

Try this --> zip the project in your computer and copy the zip file in the disk

                       I understand what a  zip file is (a file that contains the setup files,which need to be extracted to a folder...correct ?).     How would I convert my projects to the  .zip format ?   And, to open them, would I have to  'unzip' them to be able to work with them ?        I running Windows XP Pro--32bit.

Garistan,

Nope, no setup files here. A zip file is just a compressed version of a file, any file (bld, jpg, doc, etc)

Using Windows XP --> go to the Windows Explorer --> Look for the file --> Right click on the file --> Send To --> Compressed (zipped) folder
To Unzip --> just double click on the zip file
The best option --> perform the zip and unzip procedures in your computer, not in a disk

I am attaching a bld file with just 4 walls and the zipped version (ncluding the backup file) so you can "play"

Hi Garistan,

I hope you where able to save your file!

I usually open the project, then Save as/ To Desktop or my Document, then Copy/Paste on CD/ then Burn!

If file is to large, then I would make it to a Zip File and follow previous the steps to save to CD

                           I usually save a project to the Project Folder (from within TFP).   Then, when the project is complete, THEN I save it to disk (for back-up).    Maybe it was a couple bad disks (?).       But, I will keep your method in mind when saving a project to disk.      Thanks.....

Hi Garystan;

When I saved on the TFP Project folder. The render has a LOCK! check to see if yours do as well

I have a exterior Memory Drive and always save in both. 

I don't use Autosave. 

I save often while creating new work and at the end save copies of renderings from my desktop, into TFP Project folder and into a folder I create in my exterior drive, in case I have a PC problem or need to re instal the software, not loose any work.

I use a USB Drive to transfer,to print, or presentation. I use a CD very rarely!

                        Far as I know, there's no LOCK on it.    I got a feeling it had something to do with the disks.   As soon as I switched to the CD-RW,  I saved the projects with no problem.

In order to save a TFP file to a disk, you have the following options
1 - Save to your computer and the copy this file to a disk
2 - Save to a disk or memory with Read / ReWrite capabilities
3 - Some disks don't accept certain formats (*.bld is not a common format), this is why I suggested to zip the file and copy to disk (see my post above)

Hi Rob,

I don't use Autosave. 

I didn't used to use autosave either, until I lost a huge amount of work one time because my manual saves had memory issues (my memory!  ).

Now I have it set to multiple backups at half hour intervals. The latest autosave creates a BKP file. The previous one, half an hour before becomes BKP 1, the one half an hour before that becomes BKP 2 and so on, so you end up with a series of backup files at half hour intervals - handy if you need to go backwards for some reason and all automatic saving and numbering - no memory failures!

I then simply copy the latest one to a CD if I need a permanent backup.
