ground-floor roof continuous over 2nd storey

Hi,

I have built a house with a loft. I set the roof over the first floor, then set it in "solution type" to "ignore next storey location" because I have
added a loft as a second storey. The loft space all sits within the roof line of the first storey location and hence the first storey roof should be uninterrupted by
the loft. The walls of the loft have been sloped to be well below the roof line. My problem is that the first storey roof is being shown with a hole above the loft, rather than a roof. I can't get it to continue the roof above the loft, even though I thought that telling it to ignore the 2nd storey location would make it create the roof right over the top.

Any suggestions?

By the way, since purchasing my TurboFloorPlan, I've been spending a fair bit of time on it, and my husband just described himself as a "TurboFloorPlan widower"!! Should I be worried?

Hi JB,

The way to do this is to put the roof on the second floor. In Building Locations make the second floor (loft) walls  tiny (just 1mm or fraction of inch) and make sure the walls are set to Entend To Roof. Because the loft walls are so low the roof will insert at that point (which is essentially the top of the ground floor walls) and the tiny walls will then extend and follow the roof slope automatically. They will still accept doors and windows. For more details use the forum Search option and search for loft or attic.

Thanks Alan, but I can't seem to get that to work.
I had searched the forum and found this suggestion previously, but how do you make the 2nd floor roof continuous with the first floor roof so they look like one roof. It just automatically extends the 2nd floor walls to full height and then puts a higher roof
poking out of the first floor roof with strange intersections.
Even if I edit that roof I can't make it look continuous with the 1st floor roof.
It would be better if I could just have the first floor roof covering everything, then fit the second floor walls underneath it. Isn't that what "ignore next storey location" is for?

Hi JB,

The second floor is higher than the ground floor so the roof must go on the second floor or you will have the problem you are having. I can only assume that you have missed one of the essentials.

These three points are vital:

1. You MUST set the wall height in Building Locations to just 1 mm or so and then draw a wall around the perimeter of the roof. This will form the exterior edge of the roof and the roof will extend up from that point hence covering the whole of the Ground Floor and the Loft. You do not need a roof on the Ground Floor (unless part of the ground floor is not two storey of course).

2. Any walls drawn on the Loft location must be set to Auto extend - they will then extend automatically from the 1mm up to the roof. These walls must be on the same location as the roof or they will not terminate at the roof but go throug it.

3. The Walls and roof on the second floor must be inserted AFTER you cahnge the Building Location settings.

Hopefully one of these points solve the problem for you.
