Convert .bmf to .pro

I have been away for quite some years from floorplan and all of my plans are in the old FloorPlan 3d version 8 so they are .bmf.  Is there any way possible to import this file into the current version of TurboFloorplan version 17?  Or convert the .bmf into a .pro file?

Hi Bryan,

It IS a long gap from V8 to V17 - and things have really changed in that time!! Floorplan 3D (bmf file) became TurboFloorplan starting with V12 (bld file based on Envisioneer) which was a totally different program and totally incompatible. Now recently it has changed again and V17 is likewise a totally different program (based on Punch).

So technically your question is in the wrong section of the forum to get the answer but as far as I know there isn't any conversion to V17. There isn't a conversion from V16 to V17 so I doubt there would be from V8.

Turbofloorplan V17 won't import bmf files, however, perhaps a workaround is possible.

Can you tell me if the program exports the model or the floor plans? if so, can you inform the formats?

My version of floorplan will export to DFX and VRML file extensions.

Hi Bryan,

OK, then you have 2 options
1 - TFP V17 will import your DXF plans => Once you import the plans, you can convert every line or polygon into intelligent entities (like walls, floors, decks, etc). Example => you select a line => Convert To => wall (or driveway, etc) => IMO, this is the best option
2 - VRML => this one requires more work. If you have a 3D program (or you can download a demo of TurboCad) => you can convert the VRML file to 3DS format and import this file using TFP V17. In this case, although you will import a 3D model,  it will be an object (like a chair), so you won't be able to modify it or add doors, windows, etc. If your program exports VRML version 2, the file will have colors but not textures. If your program exports VRML version 3, the file will have colors and textures.

Thanks Patricia for your reply.  I tried your method but sad to say, the trial version I downloaded looks like I cannot import anything, they are greyed out.  Oh well, I don't think I will buy it unless I know for sure I can import my old drawings.  In the mean time, I will see what I can whip up in 15 days of my trial.:-)

Hi Bryan,

You're welcome! 
greyed out? are you in Quick Start Mode? If so, keep in mind that the Quick Start mode works like a fast layout.
Therefore, if you are in Quick Start Mode, the options Import , Export, Print, etc are disabled: just click the Continue button and go to the hub of the program. All the features will be available in the main program.
In the PDF attached, you can see the features of TFP V17 => you will find Import DXF /DWG at page #3

Thanks, Patricia.  Yes silly me, I was in the quick start mode.  The import did work for me however there are not any plans to view.  It prompted me for the scale(inches) and then completed, but I don't see any plans.  Attached is my dxf file.

Hi Bryan,

Your DXF file is a 3D file (see image attached).
So, you have 2 options
- Convert the DXF to 3DS and import it as object (as I explained previously)
- Flat the 3D to 2D and proceed to import and convert to walls, floors, etc.

Notice that, in order to import and convert, you must import each level separatelly

Thanks.  I think I will just start over with v17 as I want a working floor plan that I can modify.  Uggghhhh.  My plan from floorplan 8 has 13 levels. 

From the little work I have been doing in v17, I don't see that you can have multiple levels, only 3 floors.  Still getting used to the new version it seems a step back from what I am used to, but I am sure there are many added features options I don't know about yet.  The old version had an option called "zoom window" that you could select an area and it would zoom just that area, I don't see that option in v17.

You're welcome! 
In my opinion, yes, start from the beginning is the best option. If you can, create a jpg or bmp plan of the original plan => import as trace image using => Design => Floor Plan Trace properties => trace the walls, roofs, etc
The program has 3 "official" levels but you can set different elevations and create more levels.

I have images and tutorials, but they are in my commercial website, so I am not sure if this is allowed in the Forum. I wrote PMs to the administrators asking for authorization, and I am waiting for the answer
