Wall & Dimension questions

A few questions related to walls...

1) Most automatic dimensions seem to go to this middle of the wall.  Any way to make these go to the edge of the wall?  I noticed that when you complete the outside perimeter, the outside dimensions seem to automatically change to the outside edge (which is kind of confusing when you don't realize what is happening), but inside the house itself, everything is the mid-point of the wall.  BTW:  I know there is the ability to manually add Dimension Wall Spacing, but this needs to be done manually and the Room Dimensions show the "wrong" dimensions.

2) When walls are "connected", they all seem to inherit the same thickness.  This makes it really difficult when you have to represent the difference between inside & outside walls or plumbing walls.  Is there an easy way to "disconnect" this so when I change 1 wall in the house, everything doesn't change?

Hi there,

Some notes:
- The walls in the perimeter of a project are always showed with their exterior dimensions (as usual in the construction industry) because they reflect the project general size. Check any permit plan and you will see the same feature.
- Regarding the dims of the interior walls, you can customize this setting => select the interior wall (wall pointed with the green arrow in the image attached) => Tool Options bar (right of the screen) => Auto dims => select centers or surfaces (outlined in red in the image attached)
- Not sure if I understand the wrong dimensions' comment
- Regarding the walls' thickness, there are two important concepts => if you have two walls and you join them using the arrows of your keyboard, you are connecting the walls => this means that the walls are together but they are independent => they don't share the properties (including the thickness) so they work as 2 separated walls. If you have two walls and you join them using the mouse, you are merging the walls => this means that the walls are fused => they share the properties (including the thickness) and they work as only one wall.

TFP,  as any program, has a learning curve. The best way to learn the program, IMO, is practice + practice + practice => Read and follow the manual (this is important), see the videos => try to create elements not related with your project, so you will become familiar with the commands and how to develop the different components.

Thanks.  I understand the learning curve, but the help file is not very helpful for things like this.  It doesn't really address the difference between connecting & merging of the walls.  I seems to have stumbled upon that in some areas, but couldn't recreate it.

The comment about dimensions was related to the room dimensions shown.  It shows the room dimensions & SQ Ft.  I have all the walls for the room set for Surface, and the walls show as 11'0" & 19'8 1/2", yet the "room dimensions" show 11'7" x 20'3" which is basically to the center of the walls, not the surface.  Guessing it has to do with "adding" the sq ftg, but it is misleading.

In this version, the dims in the label are set to center, because are the dims as per the framing floor.
