Is there an Australian brick veneer wall element available

Hello all,

Up till now I have been using a 230mm brick wall for Australian brick veneer, which works fine for concept drawings, i have tried using a 90mm stud wall and putting a 110mm brick wall beside it with a 30mm gap, works till you try to fit doors and windows.

is there a wall element for brick veneer, as we draw it here in Australia, (stud gap, brick veneer)

Hi Phil,

I have made a brick veneer wall for you set to the dimensions you mentioned: 110mm brick, 30mm cavity and 90mm internal stud wall. It is saved as a BIM file, so should import OK and be useable (File/Catalogue/Import BIM). It was created in a later version, so I am not sure if TFP will accept it. It may say it can't but actually go on and import it anyway. If it does not work for you, let me know and I will create it in an earlier version.

Because of the limitations on the walls in TFP, you will only be able to change the thickness of the interior part of the wall (the Core). As you may know, the veneer is only added when TFP detects an exterior surface (where walls connect to make an enclosed area) so you can use the same wall to do your interior walls also if you want.  Solid Fill is turned on for the Exterior Brick and Interior Stud but not for the cavity, so if you want those two parts of the wall to be filled in solid black, you just need to activate it in Settings / Program Settings / Building Aids.

I have turbo floorplan3D home and landscape pro version 14 Australian version,

it will not allow updates or the addition of the BIM files or print and crashes occasionally

and am wondering if any one has the latest version and if it is working fine, i will upgrade

Hi Phil,

V14 is a long time ago and I had forgotten it did not support BIM files. If you are considering upgrading and want to continue using your existing files and Australian catalogue then you will have to change to a different program. TFP V17 and the latest version V2015, are not compatible in any way with V14 or even V16. They are based on a version of Punch, while V14 was based on Cadsoft software so moving to V17 or V2015, would mean your previous projects, catalogue etc could not be used and you would have a totally new learning curve ahead of you as the functionality is very different

There are a number of other programs around that use the same Cadsoft 3D functionality that was used in V12 -V16 such as Personal Architect, Pro Architect and Envisioneer but the last two are professional programs and considerably more expensive. Personal Architect is priced about the same as TFP, or even a little cheaper just at the moment. Apart from the name you will find it works exactly the same as your current version, will accept BIM files and is totally compatible with your existing projects and catalogue. It is in fact what TFP V17 would have been if the change to the Punch based software had not happened and obviously there is a lot of additional functionality since V14.

If you do upgrade to Personal Architect, the BIM file for the Australian cavity wall will work fine.
