Rooms Under Stairs

Hello Everyone,

I am using V16 and would like to know how you can create a bathroom underneath straight stairs?

Hi Jazelle and welcome to the forum! 

It is simple enough to put the bathroom fittings under the stairs as long as you turn Collision off (Status bar, bottom right of screen)

The more difficult part is the wall with the door. What you need to do is draw an ordinary wall along the edge of the stairs and then right click and on Properties, go to the Top and Bottom tab. There you can select the Slope option (see image). Set the Start Point to the height of the ceiling (usually) and the Stop Point to zero if the bottom the stairs comes to a point, as in your case. If you select this new wall in the 3D view you can see the effect of the slope as you change it.  The door will insert in this wall but may be a tight fit as in my model of your photo.

That was easy and it worked well. My next question is how do i create an opening from the second floor overlooking the first floor living room?

Hi Jazelle,

I am glad to hear that you followed that OK and it worked for you.

To cut a hole in the floor or ceiling you just select the floor, right click and select Cut Opening. You then just draw the shape of your opening and the centre will disappear. If you have a ceiling on the Ground Floor you will have to cut an Opening in that too. If you are just using the underside of the upper floor as the ceiling then you do not need to do the the second cut obviously.

If you have difficulty selecting the floor in order to cut the opening, select it is 3D View fist. Then switch to Plan view. You will lose the selection but it you go to the menu Edit, you can choose Select Previous and you will have the Floor selected again. You can then right click and cut the opening. You can also select floors and ceilings easy in 2D Designer View but may have to turn off roof and other ceilings to see the Floor.
