Sloping Driveway

Hello again. I have run into a bit of a problem. I am trying to slope a driveway and then fill in below it. I have tried the topography line tool but it seems to affect more than I want it too. Here is a image...I need to elevate driveway 12" under the garage doors and then slope down. I have researched this but cant seem to find a solution...HELP

Hi there,

First you need to create the slope (topography) => you can do this with the slope tool (Landscape tab)
For the finishing floor (driveway, pathway, etc) => there are 2 options
For ground fill region or driveways => Try this => Assuming that you already developed the topography=> Create your driveways / sidewalks with several points (handles)--> select the driveways / sidewalks => Edit (or right click) => Float Object Above Topography => in this way, each point will float above the slope or other Topo objects, with different elevations if necessary
In order to create the handles, just left click with the mouse while drawing the driveway
For the ground fill region (landscape tab) draw the perimeter of the driveway with several points (handles) => select the driveways / sidewalks => Edit (or right click) => Float Object Above Topography => in this way, each point will float above the berms and other Topo objects, with different elevations if necessary

Hi, Dont quite understand the slope tool, if I understand it, it slopes the whole lot. It then changes elevations that I do not want changed. Am I correct? The topography line tool seems hard to control too. I tried the roof tool and set to the ground and used it as the driveway. It worked but of course I have this...The image is of that.  It looks sloppy tho. Hmmmm

Create a partial slope
When you create a topo contour, you have 2 options: keep it as a contour or convert it to building pad. The building pad is useful in different situations and this is one of them.
You can limit the slope area using the building pads. You need to set the correct areas and elevations

The roof is not a good idea because you can't change the thickness. But if you wish to create this as a massive piece (slope and floor together), you can  create the piece using the 3D workshop, as you did with the beam

Hi Patricia, Yes I used the Build Pads to get this result. With the help of your ebook and your examples and explanations. The Pads are a little confusing until you get the way they work. A lot of practice I guess. The stone peers are not right but will work on that next. It is a great program. Thanks very much, Patricia.

Hi, I did a lot of rework and got the sloping driveway I wanted. I used the 3D Workshop to create the driveway. There are two pieces. I also did some 3DS importing to create the chicken weather vane on the peak of house.( Chicken Weathervane created in another program)  I even added two glasses of milk on the stone peers at bottom of picture. Also used 3D Workshop to create gutters and downspouts. The program is very capable, just have to work with it it and do some reading. I have some questions on the 3DS importing but will start another topic.

I fixed a issue with the lower roof...we raised first floor for a 10 foot high garage

Some elements in the corner look odd
See the 2 different heights of the wainscot
Are the windows a little low?

Hmmm....I see what you mean, Patricia. I have the two different concrete heights on the corner. The windows are at door elevation. I am trying to keep the stone veneer and cap 4 foot but ya it looks odd. Did some adjustment but still, not sure how to fix this. Do you think it is any better?

Depends of your goals....
Can you tell me the dims and elevations of the windows as well as the height of the garage door?
